Mary P. O'Brien WATERVLIET - Mary Pascale O'Brien, 87, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at her home in Watervliet. Born in Torre di Ruggiero, Italy on November 22, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Graziano and Marta Iozzo Pascale. Mary came to the United States at the age of 3 with her family and settled in Watervliet. She was a 1942 graduate of Watervliet High School. She married her late husband, J. Leo O'Brien on April 14, 1956 in Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet. Mary was a secretary for the Veterans Administration at the Watervliet Arsenal for 10 years and later ran the JLB Typing Service from her home for 10 years typing various documents for the Burroughs Corporation. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She was a longtime volunteer for the Watervliet Public Library and was a member of the Albany County Women's Democratic Committee. She was the devoted wife of the late J. Leo O'Brien, former Mayor of the City of Watervliet, beloved mother of Patricia and William Burns of Latham, William and Patrice O'Brien of Colonie, Thomas and Khalan O'Brien of Latham, Michael J. O'Brien of Greenwich, CT and James and Melissa O'Brien of Niskayuna; adored “Nana” of 16 grandchildren; dear sister of Angelina Ford of Anaheim, CA, Larry and Nancy Pascale of Latham and the late Anthony, Agnes and Elizabeth Pascale; sister-in-law of Joan Schuup of Colonie. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Saturday at 8:45 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 9:30 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 25th Street & 7th Avenue, Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John F. Tallman. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday (today) from 4-7 pm.
