Michael Farrell Obituary

TROY – Michael F. Farrell, 78, passed into eternal life on November 20, 2021 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. He was the son of the late Joseph T. Farrell and Leona Gillette Farrell of Watervliet.Michael was born and raised in Watervliet and spent his adult life in Troy and attended school in both cities. He was a great athlete growing up playing baseball for the F.F. Crannell Lumber Co. in the Watervliet Little League. He also was selected to the All-Star team. He played basketball for St. Brigid’s CYO and for LaSalle Institute’s freshmen team. He learned boxing from Jack Roach at the Watervliet Civic Center and later boxed for LaSalle Institute.He worked at the Ford Motor Plant in Green Island on the radiator assembly line. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and was 100% disabled service related. Michael was a daily communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, Troy and an active member of the Lansingburgh Vets serving as chaplain. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #237, 3rd Degree, and Council #702, 4th Degree, Troy AOH Lodge 3141, Troy DAV Father Francis A. Kelly Chapter #38, Watervliet VFW Post #729, Wynantskill American Legion Post #1489, Troy Elks Lodge #141, the Lion’s Club and the Lansingburgh Rotary.Michael was a man of great strength, unwavering faith and moral character. He enjoyed time with family and friends, playing darts at the club, golfing, bowling and driving Troy celebrities around in his red convertible in all of Troy’s parades. He enjoyed life and laughter even though he lived with a disability and all that goes with that. He was well loved by his sister Carol, other family members and friends. Mike FF will be greatly missed. His sister Carol and the rest of the family would like to thank the nurses (Patty) at the VA Medical Center for their kindness to Michael in his last days and to the staff at the Van Rensselaer Manor 2nd floor B and C wings!!He was the brother of the late Joseph T., John L., Robert W. and Gerard M. Farrell and the late Mary Theresa Loiselle, Sr. M. Leona Regina, O’Carm. and Elizabeth “Betty” Sirigiano. He is survived by his sister Carol A. Farrell of Schodack and Madeline Chittenden of Troy and many nieces, nephews and friends.Friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Friday, 11/26/21 from 4-7 pm. The funeral mass will be Saturday, 11/27/21 at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 25th St. & 7th Ave., Watervliet.
