William Scully Obituary

SCULLY, WILLIAM WATERVLIET - William E. Scully, 88, died on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Born in Albany on May 9, 1922, he was a son of the late John and Catherine Driscoll Scully. He was raised and educated in Watervliet and was an army veteran of World War II having served with the Signal Corps. in the European Theater of operations. For his service he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal. Following the war, Mr. Scully returned to Watervliet where he resided for the rest of his life. He was the owner of Scully's Service Station in Watervliet and later drove a school bus for the North Colonie School District from where he retired after ten years of service. Mr. Scully was a member of the Watervliet VFW City Post #729, Latham-Colonie Council of the Knights of Columbus and was a former member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks #1500. He was a communicant of St. Brigid's Church in Watervliet. He was the former husband of the late Shirley Elder Scully Paparian; father of Sherrlyn (Richard) O'Connell of West Sand Lake and Florida, Mark W. (Rose) Scully of Watervliet and Kevin E. Scully of Florida; grandfather of Shawn O'Connell, Stephanie Hull, Scott O'Connell, Ryan Scully and Conor Scully; great-grandfather of Ashley, Kate Lyn and Jenna Lyn Hull. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Robert and Edward Scully. Funeral from the Cummings Funeral Home, 643 Third Avenue, Watervliet on Tuesday at 9:00 am and at 9:30 AM in St. Brigid's Church, Watervliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 4 until 7pm at the funeral home.
