Aaron Polinsky Obituary

Rev. Aaron S. Polinsky Rev. Polinsky passed away on April 29, 2014 at the age of 92. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on November 25, 1921, and lived there during his entire childhood. He earned a Bachelor's degree from Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ) and a Masters degree from Columbia University Teachers College (New York), later pursuing a career as a teacher of various languages. Right after graduating from Rutgers, Mr. Polinsky was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served four years in the Army Medical Corps as a surgical nurse. He was honorably discharged in February, 1946. On May 19, 1946, he married Helen Polinsky (nee Vogel) in Jersey City. He and Mrs. Polinsky raised two daughters. Mr. Polinsky was very caring and loving young father to his daughters and provided them with helpful guidance as they were growing up. During his teaching career, Mr. Polinsky taught foreign languages, with his main concentration being French, at several high schools in New Jersey. In his last years of teaching before retirement, he served as the head of the foreign languages department at West Essex High School in Caldwell, NJ. Throughout his teaching career, Mr. Polinsky was an outstanding and dedicated teacher, who greatly cared about his students and encouraged them to learn. To this end, he set high standards for his students which many of them met. Mr. Polinsky made a lasting favorable impression on many of his students. Upon retirement in 1982. Mr. and Mrs. Polinsky retired to Tucson. During his years in Tucson, Rev. Polinsky was very active in volunteering in several organizations in Tucson that focused on the Jewish community in Tucson and also volunteered at the VA Hospital for many years. He also continued his love of teaching by preparing several Jewish boys and girls for their Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs. Rev. Polinsky is survived by his daughter, Ruth (Wayne) Rothschild; five grandchildren, Debra and Beth Prosnitz, Amy, Robert and Michael Rothschild. Also survived by three great- grandchildren, Isara, Ayzik and Jade Rothschild. He is also preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Isaac, Ida, Max and Frances and his beloved wife, Helen on August 17, 2012 and his daughter, Elaine (Eric) Prosnitz on November 9, 1992. Graveside Services were held Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Congregation Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery, with Cantor Avi Alpert officiating. Aaron was a beloved chaplain at the V.A. I remember one time he was hospitalized and wanted to visit other patients himself. He will be missed by all.
