Abraham Jay Busby

Abraham Jay Busby, 86, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on June 10, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jay leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love.

Born and raised in Tucson, Jay was the eighth of nine children in a close-knit family. He graduated from Pueblo High School in 1957 and served a mission in Northern Mexico. He later earned an accounting degree from the University of Arizona and enjoyed a long and respected career as a CPA, founding partner of Busby, Sanford, Brady.

Jay married Irlys Swanson in 1963 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Together they raised 7 children and shared nearly 63 years of marriage. He served in many church leadership roles, including Bishop, Stake President, Patriarch, and Temple Sealer. In 2007, he and Irlys fulfilled a lifelong goal of serving a temple mission in Costa Rica.

Jay will be remembered for his humility, kindness, and Christlike love for all. He is survived by his wife, seven children and their spouses (Virginia and Randy, Kent and Nancy, Kevin and Shannan, Phelan and Nancy, Curtis and Hyeson, A. Jay and Heidi, and Matt and Cassie), 18 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren (with 3 more on the way), and his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Marilyn.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Tucson Arizona Stake Center, 105 North Norton Avenue. Jay will be interred at the Binghamton Cemetery, 4001 North Alvernon Way, Tucson.
