Barbara Jean Gibbons 1/7/1939 - 7/16/2013 Barbara Jean Gibbons, 74, was born in Tucson, AZ to G.L. "Rusty" and Martha Gibbons on January 7, 1939. She Graduated from Catalina High School, and at the age of 45, Barbara earned her degree from the U of A. She loved to travel and even lived in Spain for several years. Barbara experienced life and other cultures while traveling around the world. She big game hunted in Africa, shot elephant, Lion and lots of wild game. She was always up for adventures!!! Barbara never met a stranger!! She has kept in contact with friends that she has met around the world and with friends from her childhood; they all were like family to her. Barbara had severe diabetes, pancreatic cancer and had major surgery; she cheated death for the last four years. Through it all, with a smile on her face, she kept up a great outlook on life. She is loved and will be deeply missed by her mother, her brother, Gregg (DeeAnne) of Tucson; her sister, Linda (Bill) Strunk of Bullhead City; five loving nieces and their children. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 12:00 noon at La Paloma Resort. Family requests remembrances be made to Angel Charity for Children, P.O. Box 14225, Tucson, AZ 85732. To the Gibbons and Strunk family,
I am so sorry to hear from a family member on the DeMuynck side that Barbara has left us. I am shocked as I was just in Sierra Vista a month ago and made sure to make a trip to Tucson to have lunch with my "Cous". I will miss our periodic conversations on how our lives are going and her exotic travels. She never let me down with her excitement and vitality on life. Will miss your Christmas card this year.

I am so sorry. yes Barbara was a unique person...very interesting! I first met her when she was 18. We lost contact for a while but after we got back in touch there were many visits back and forth between San Diego and Tucson. She last visited me in 2010 in Nashville where I now live. She was a real trooper after her cancer....goodbye Barbara and hugs to all the family.

Barbara, I was so saddened to hear of your passing. You were a dear friend having met in St Moritz, Switzerland in December 1975. We shared many laughs, many, many adventures, some tears, but I never stopped loving you my dear friend.
I'm finding it hard to believe you have left us and I know you put up a real fight against your illnesses and other issues that plagued you through the years. Well, now you are free from all that.
My condolences to Linda, Bill, Gregg, DeeAnn and all your beautiful nieces.
You will be sorely missed. There will only ever be one Barbara!! So unique, so beautiful, so kooky and fun!! Life was never dull when you were around. Rest in peace now.

My sincerest sympathy goes out to the Gibbons family. I am so grateful that I got to spend some truley fun and wonderful times with Barbara over the last several months as I am employed at Amber Lights where Barbara had recently moved. She was so lively and cheerful and a little "goofy," but all of us that knew here adored that side.
