Cathy Layne Downs

1950 - 2025

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, peacefully entered Heaven on October 13, 2025, at the age of 75. Cathy was born March 16, 1950, to Gordon and Helen Nelson. In 1968, Cathy met the love of her life, Tom. Their connection was instant, and married six months later, that would become a beautiful 56-year marriage. Over the years she created countless cross-stitch art work that continue to bring joy to family and friends. Cathy will also be remembered for her warmth and genuine personality, a stranger to no one. A true fighter, Cathy faced every challenge with strength. She survived ovarian cancer, quadruple bypass heart surgery, and pancreatic cancer. After bravely battling stomach cancer for five years, she was greeted by her mom and dad at the gates of heaven. Cathy is survived by her husband, Tom; her children, Bryan (Michelle) and Scott (Darby); grandchildren, Taylor, Brittany, Grayson, Harper, and Everleigh; great-grandson, William; siblings, Doug (Cheri), Teri (Bill); numerous nieces and nephews. Laid to rest at East Lawn Cemetery. Cathy's legacy of love, laughter, resilience, and creativity will live on in all who were blessed to know her. Celebration of life planned for 1.18.26.
