Charles Ray HELTON

HELTON, Charles Ray Dr. Ray Helton, beloved by many, was born in Corbin, KY on January 21, 1929. He left us to begin his eternal life on the morning of October 3, 2017. He grew up in Corbin, KY and went to the University of Kentucky, Louisville, graduating with a Masters degree in Anatomy. Joined the Army and became a pilot, achieving the rank of Lieutenant, during the Korean War. In 1959, he resumed his studies, attending the Kansas City College of Osteopathy. He moved to Tucson and served his residency at Tucson General Hospital, where he also served as Chief of Staff for three consecutive years. Dr. Helton served on the board of numerous charitable organizations, as well as being elected as President of the Board for Tucson General Hospital. He went into private practice in 1960, opening a clinic on Ajo Way, where he remained in practice until the late 1980's. Dr. Helton spent his retirement traveling the world, frequently cruising, sometimes taking his whole family! Ray, known to all as Dr. Love, is survived by Sandra Sanchez, his fiance, and her family. Ray was also a wonderful father. He is survived by his two sons, Chuck Helton and Bob Helton, their wives, and their mother, Jean Helton Schuster. His fatherly love extended to many others: his three step children from his previous marriage to Huddy Ensign, - Audrey Campbell, Scott Vogelsberg, and Jennifer Wright and their families, and his fiance's daughter, Janelle Rivera and her husband, Nick. But he had a very special place in his heart for his two grandchildren, Janelle's sons, Christian and Julian. He is also survived by his brothers, Captain Jimmy Helton, retired, and David Helton, Kentucky residents. Two special dedicated friends, Joyce Crum and Wayne Pelmont. Dr. Helton touched so many people with his love, his humor, and generosity. We wish to express our most heartfelt appreciation to all who felt so deeply for Dr. Helton. Please join us in a celebration of Dr. Helton's life on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., at the MARANA MORTUARY, 12146 West Barnett Road. Internment will follow.
