David Vance and Marcia Mackey obituary

David Mackey Obituary

David Vance and Marcia Mackey David 75, was called home peacefully at his home in Zebulon, NC on Sunday, March 3, 2013 following a long battle with many illnesses. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, son and friend to many and all he met. David was born June 23, 1937 in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Tucson High School and the University of Arizona with both a Bachelors and Masters degrees. David worked as the Director of Contracts and Procurement for the City of Tucson. Upon retirement from that position in 1995, David enjoyed life to the fullest. Playing golf, traveling and many dinners with friends and family were the moments he enjoyed most. David loved and enjoyed his family and friends so much. Family vacations to Kino Bay, Mexico and Apache Lake were among some of his fondest early memories. He traveled to Europe, Alaska and several destinations within the United States with his wife, Muffie and friends. Due to complications during a medical procedure in 2003, David was left a paraplegic. However, this did not stop his zest for life and living. Though now confined to a wheelchair, he would not let that hold him back from living life. He and his loving wife just decided they would have to live life a little differently. Though he was unaware, David was an inspiration to any and all who met him and knew his story. He was an example to all that even in adversity, life is to be cherished and lived to the fullest. David actively participated and competed in the National Veterans Wheelchair games and most of all enjoyed the company of his Navy brothers. David lived in North Carolina the last three years of his life. As much as he liked North Carolina, he always longed for those warm Arizona days. David was a huge fan of University of Arizona sports, especially basketball. He loved and missed Arizona and longed to return for a walk in the desert. David is survived by his loving son, Kevin B. Mackey; his devoted daughter, Kelly C. and husband, David Richardson; granddaughters, Audrey R. Richardson and Cayla H.C. Mackey and two brothers, Robert Rudolph and Richard Rudolph and many nieces and nephews. David was loved by many friends and family, Suzi and Paul Cottrell, Bobby Richardson, Brooke and Stan Suffecool and countless others. He is preceded in death by his lovely bride, Marcia "Muffie" R. Mackey (November 21, 2009) and his mother, Helen Rudolph and father, Harold Rudolf and two brothers, Ronald Mackey and Gary Mackey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Online condolences at CremationSocietyNC.com
