I don't remember exactly when I met Don (The Old Buzzard, or Buzz for short) but I do know he started doing work for me when I went on my own (general contractor) in 1987. Me and my guys would hang the drywall and then he would come in and tape and texture, sometimes he had John with him. When he would first get on the job he would walk around, look at our hanging job, shake his head, and then offer to put us in touch with quality hangers. He had a great sense of humor, New York and dry. He was all American, very black and white, no b.s., didn't mess around, got right to work or to the point.
He helped me out so much when I first got started, and he continued to be a big help to me and just a great friend. He was almost exactly same age as my dad, and they had so much in common. I told Don he was a lot like my dad.
I liked how he called Miz B the illiterate principal when she was working at the school, and how he always called him Steven, never Steve.
He even did some jobs for me after retiring, never once complaining about his shoulder.
It was always fun to see him arrive on the jobsite with Slick the Wonderdog, who I think was fed mostly doughnuts.
Don was such a true person and great friend, I am like everyone else in that I will miss him so much. I was never able to be as good a friend to him as he was to me.
Don had a very special place in his heart for my younger brother Mike, whom passed away in 2007. Out of his love for my brother and his respect for my family Don and Miz B came to the funeral, driving over 4 hours each way from the White Mountains, all in the same day. That's a bunch of driving for one day but it is just the type of guy he was. That meant so much to me and I will never forget that.
I loved that man and I say that with an impeccable record of heterosexuality!
Don is fine now, with God and pain free. Looking down on us saying "Look at those poor suckers down there, making a big fuss over me. You would have thought I was special or something!"
Well, Don, you were, and I am better for having known you.
My blessings go out to Miz B and all the Bushell family.

Uncle Don was a kind man. I will always rememeber him as that along with his classic "dry Bushell sense of humor". May he rest in peace and god bless his family in their time of need. Jack jr.
