Earl Wettstein Obituary

Earl Wettstein 81, beloved husband of Sherie Broekema and father of Lisa and Gillian, died unexpectedly of a heart attack in his home on January 9, 2013. Born in Minneapolis, MN to Ray and Helen on February 1, 1931, he graduated Univ. of Minnesota, served in the Army, began his advertising career and moved to Tucson in 1962 with ex-wife, JoAnne. Earl was a Renaissance man who lived life to the fullest each and every day: AdMan, Artist, Writer, Playwright, Community Leader, Activist, Volunteer. Earl loved his family, the arts, nature, traveling, Dachshunds and Tucson. The world is a more interesting place because of him. My life would not be the same without Earl. As a Junior at the U of A, I went to Wettstein Advertising and asked Earl about an internship. He asked me what I wanted to do and I told him I wanted to be the creative director. He let out a big laugh and told me not many people would be bold enough to walk in and ask for his job. That said, he created and internship just for me and as they say the rest is history.
From Wettstein/Bolchalk I found a spring board for opportunity and Earl was always there to help me. He was one of the most honest people I have ever met in my life and I am forever in is debt. He surrounded himself with bright and talented people and gave them the opportunity to succeed.
Thank you Earl for all you did. I wish I could have told you this while you were still here.

I worked for Earl back in 1973-74. He was a wonderful, caring man who made every employee feel like an integral part of the Wettstein team. I was devastated to learn of his passing and extend my heartfelt sympathy to his family.

Regrets to Sherie and the family. I knew Earl because of his advocacy for the right to die with dignity--he left quite a legacy for all of us who care about that.
