Ed was an unflappable professional, an excellent reporter and one of the best rewrite men of his time. When I returned to the Globe-Democrat from service in 1973 and was part of the city desk pool, Ed was a sort of mentor to me (although I doubt he looked at it that way). He offered guidance without being intrusive and often volunteered bits of information that helped me sort through the many facets of city desk reporting. Thanks, Ed. Rest in peace.

Dear Melina Sy, Holly, Timothy & Cameron. I never had the opportunity of meeting you, but Aunt Annie was my mother's sister (Theresa Naylor) "Sonny" as we called him, Betty and Janette are my first cousins. I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't have the opportunity to know him as well as I did his sisters, but I remember him when I was small. My mother talked about her nieces and nephew quite often and loved them and I was able to know him more through my mother's love and affection. What I do remember about him was he was kind, funny and loved. He will be missed. Love and prayers for comfort and peace to all at this difficult time.. Love a cousin.. Verna

We remember meeting Ed for the first time at a Christmas party Meina hosted at their house, he was very quiet until my husband Billy asked about an article framed on their wall and they sat and talked for awhile about his career in print. And I also remember seein a picture on their wall of Ed and Meina in younger days but it conveyed the love between them
I also remember talking with Ed and him saying how proud of Holly he was when she tried volleyball. Sending our prayers. Laura and Billy Geisen
