Elaine Adele Barger

1948 - 2023

Born as a second-generation Irish immigrant, Elaine Adele Clancy arrived in the Big Apple on October 9, 1948. She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Bob Barger Sr.; her parents, John O. Clancy and Mary O'Gorman; and her eldest son, Robert "Bobby" Paul Jr. She is survived by her son, Dennis (Cindy), and grandchildren Michael and Courtney; Bobby's children - Brandon, Nicole, Dylan, Eric, and Orion, and great-grandchildren, Everly, Aspen, Willa, Scarlet, and Cullen; and her sister Maureen (Roger) and her children Kenny and Kelly. She always hated the names Elaine and Adele, so was very happy that her husband took to calling her "Clancy" a name that others quickly embraced and the name that others would come to know her by over the final half of her life. At age 29, Clancy and her boys relocated to Arizona while her husband tried to sell their home in New York, and the city girl was taken out of the city, but the city accent could never be taken out of the girl. During her 45-plus years in Arizona, Clancy made many friends, worked at Osco Drug, and spent time living in Tucson, Show Low, and Tucson again. She was a supportive wife and a devoted mother (this is the sentence that not only characterized her but would have made her the most proud). She and Bob were active in the Elk's Lodge, the Sheriff's Auxiliary, and the Moose Lodge. After Bob's passing, COVID hit her hard and she felt isolated; the passing of her oldest son only made this harder. The bright spot in her last five years was her relationship with Ron Burmester. A long-time friend of hers and Bob's, he gave her life meaning and purpose in her final years, until Dementia claimed her mind. Clancy passed only four weeks shy of her 75 birthday, a shadow of her former vibrant self, and far too early for someone with such an amazing love for children and a heart for her family. For everyone who ever called her MeMa, you were robbed of quality years with her, and for that, we are sorry but know that she loved you.The family will host a celebration of life on November 5, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at the Harrison Hills Community Center (4675 S. Harrison Road) all friends are welcome.
