Elizabeth Morton Obituary

Elizabeth S. "Betty" Morton, a long-time Tucson resident, passed away on November 29, 2024, at the age of 86, in Pearl River County, Mississippi. She was surrounded by family who loved her dearly.

Originally from Burns, Mississippi, and later Biloxi, Betty attended the University of Southern Mississippi where she was a Dixie Darling on the Pride of Mississippi Precision Dance Team. After marrying the late Colonel John "Jack" Morton USAF (Ret), they moved to Tucson, Arizona, where she raised their son and daughter. Betty went on to attend the University of California, Riverside and the University of Arizona, graduating with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biology and Watershed Management. She volunteered as a docent for the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum for 35 years.

Betty was the best mom and grandmother and cared deeply for her grandchildren. She delighted in teaching them bird watching and always took them to the Desert Museum on every visit, sharing her love of nature with them. As an avid tennis player, desert hiker and Wildcat Basketball fan, she encouraged athleticism and a passion for the outdoors in her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack and daughter Elizabeth "Beth" Morton, and is survived by her son, Kevin (Erin) Morton, and her grandchildren, Michael and Jonathan Morton. She will be sorely missed.

An internment service will be held at the East Lawn Palms Cemetery Mausoleum in Tucson at 10:30 a.m. on February 1, 2025. Friends of Betty and the Morton family are invited to attend.
