Florene Edwards Dyer 98, passed away September 17, 2007 in Tucson, Arizona. She was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois. After graduating from Bloom Township High School in 1926, she completed nurses training at Wesley Memorial Hospital (affiliated with Northwestern University Medical School) in Chicago. Florene married Charles L. Edwards in 1930 and they made their home in Chicago Heights until moving to Tucson in 1967. Charles died in 1985, shortly after their 55th wedding anniversary. Florene married Paducah, Kentucky resident and Chicago Heights native William W. Dyer in 1988. She made Paducah her home until his death in 2000, when she returned to Tucson and moved into The Cascades. Florene is survived by her son Bill Edwards of Tucson; daughter, Adele Pequet of Laguna Hills, California; stepson, William H. Dyer of Paducah; stepdaughters, Judith Cann of The Colony, Texas and Sarah Dyer of Paducah; brothers, Arden Pensinger, St. Peters, Missouri and Glen Pensinger, Calumet Township, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren and step-grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Three brothers preceded her in death. Throughout her life, Florene was always an active member of a church in the community in which she lived. She was a member of the D.A.R. and volunteered her services to many organizations, especially those concerned with the welfare of children. She will be missed and will be remembered for (among other things) the beautiful afghans and baby blankets she knitted for her family. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Ruth, Candy, her dear friend Ruth and the caregivers and staff at Cascades and Corondelet Hospice. A celebration of her life will take place at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Road on Monday, September 24, 2007 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory can be made to Casa de los Ninos, 1101 N. 4th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85705 and Carondelet Hospice at St. Joseph's Hospital, 350 N. Wilmot, Tucson, AZ 85711
