Fred Moore Imus 69, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on August 6, 2011. He was born in California to the late Frances and Donald Imus. He grew up in the Southwest before serving in the Army and working as a brakeman on the Southern Pacific Railroad. He is survived by his three sons. Grandfather of seven grandchildren. Dear brother of Don (Deirdre) Imus and nephew, Wyatt Imus. Imus was a long-time songwriter and radio host. Since 2006, Fred hosted "Fred's Trailer Park Bash", a weekend show he co-hosted with Don Collier and "Missy" (Nicole Cox) on Sirius XM's Outlaw Country Channel sixty. In 1976, he and a fellow railroad worker named Phil Sweet co-wrote "I Don't Want To Have To Marry You," a No. 1 country hit for Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius. It was voted song of the year by Music City News. Fred was a man who adored his dogs and horses. He will be greatly missed. Private services will be held by the family.

I loved Fred and his ways. He was the original redneck. I know his family is missing him and that he is looking down on us. The fact that he helped start the legacy of Don Imus finding the land for the Imus Cattle ranch and starting that with his brother says how much he cared for others. He did not mince words nor did he care what you thought as long as he was honest with himself and others that was his b iggest care. I could see that in him. May he rest in peace and may his spirit guide others.

Please accept my deepest sympathy regarding the death of Fred. I used to listen to Imus on the radio years ago and always enjoyed the banter between Fred and Don. Fred did a tremendous amount of good runnning his camp for kids with cancer - takes a VERY special person to develop and maintain an organization that helps all those wonderful children - that's what I will remember Fred Imus for. He has left a wonderful legacy to his family and to the world. God bless you, Fred Imus.

I met Fred in 1995 in Santa Fe while on vacation. I stopped by his Auto Body Express office and he kindly invited me in where I took this picture. He looked just like he sounded on the radio, friendly, unassuming, humble. I so enjoyed my 15 minutes of fame with him. I have purchased his salsa - the best on the planet - and also got a blue denim shirt that I wore proudly for too many years. Fred would be happy and amused to know it is now used as a grease rag when I work on my car. Thanks for the memories, Fred, and especially the humor. Gone too soon. Never forgotten.

You were a Jewel, Fred. Enjoyed seeing

I met Fred at an Imus booksigning in Borders in Cranston, Rhode Island. Fred, as well as Don, signed my copy of Two Guys when it came out. We stood outside for about a half an hour so he could smoke and I found a darling, charming, extremely intellegent man who adored his family and his animals. It was my pleasure to remember. I waited 3 hours to get all my Imus books signed inside the store. But you can never take those wonderful moments talking to a wonderful man, Mr. Fred Imus. Thank you Fred.

I feel as though I have lost a really good friend, one I never met except on the "Imus in the Morning" jousting with his brother, Don. His dry wit, his outlook on life, his obvious intelligence were all refreshing and I always listened to/watched the show when he appeared. The line of Auto Body Express goods, both clothing and food, were wonderful. Fred, with his slightly avuncular style and unique take on the world in which he lived have added value to my life, and I will miss him a great deal. I only regret never having met my friend. --Andy Farrand (Woodland CA)

Dear Imus family,
Please accept our sincere condolences on the death of your brother.

We always waited for Fred to come on the radio...and then the TV. His banters with Don were great.

His take on everything was "smart" ...for me, one of my favorite "Fred memories" was watching Fred IChat (in the beginning with Don. Fred would be wearing a brown paper bag over his head!!!!! When we saw it for the first time we laughed so hard. I still where a bag over my head today, when I try to make people laugh!

He will be missed by the many lived he touched.

Mr. Imus and family: My deepest sympathies to your family for the loss of such a special light. One of his greatest gifts was the gift of humor. He brought so much of it to those he knew, but also to those who knew him only from your show. Many have commented on the way you and he ended your conversations on air with "I love you". That's your gift to each other. I wish we all could do that and mean it. God bless you all and may peace be in your heart, and know that he is at peace.

I am a 67 year old woman who listens every morning on my way to work to the Imus show. When I heard on Monday that Imus was not on the air, I said to myself, oh no, he's on vacation and that truly started off my week on the wrong foot. Then I heard about Fred and I thought how selfish of me to think about me and being upset Imus was not on Monday. Now, I only wish Imus was on vacation.
