Garth Lylle Young Jr.

Garth Lylle Young, Jr. 84, passed away on September 11, 2011, of metastasized prostate cancer and leukemia. Garth was born in San Francisco, CA on January 5, 1927. He spent his childhood in Brentwood, CA. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in Mechanical Engineering. He was a project manager and inventor while working for several aerospace and defense corporations. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garth and Frances Young; his sister, Sally; brother, John and his son, Garth. Garth is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children, Robert (Malu) Young, Susan Young, Matthew Young and Hillary (Brett) Olson. Also surviving his death are his stepchildren, Sandra (Tom) Arnold, Steven (Elizabeth) Boyd and Suzanne (Michael) Bekedam; nine grandchildren survive Garth: Alex Young, Maxwell Young, Daisy Olson, Matthew Olson, Thomas Arnold, Lindsay Arnold, MacKenzie Bekedam, Kennedy Bekedam and Daphne Boyd. He was a member of Catalina Foothills Church where he sang bass in the choir, served as a deacon and a Stephen Minister. He also was on the board of the Bridge (a half-way home for returning inmates). Services will be held at Catalina Foothills Church on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arizona Cancer Center-Development Office, 1515 North Campbell Tucson, AZ 85724-5013 or Catalina Foothills Church - Music Fund.
