George Jupinko Obituary

George Jupinko 97, went home to the Lord on June 7, 2010. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 14, 1913 but spent several years of his early life in Eastern Europe before returning to the United States. He was married to his devoted wife Martha, by whom he is survived, on July 27, 1941. George and Martha began residing in Tucson in 1977. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, George Stephan of Arlington, Texas; daughters, Martha Jupinko (Rullo), Denise Jupinko, and Celeste Jupinko, all of Tucson; five grandchildren, Stephan, Marco, Robert, Bryce, and Christina; sons-in-law Ronald Rullo, James Irwin, and Thomas Wooten. George served his country in World War II and afterwards began to work for the Veterans Administration where he achieved the position of Chief Fiscal Officer at the new Altoona, Pennsylvania VA Hospital. He also worked at VA hospitals in western Pennsylvania where he was recognized for over 30 years of dedicated service. George was known as an exceptional golfer and won many tournaments, trophies, and awards over the years (including four holes-in-one). He also was accomplished in other sports, music, business, and mechanics. Throughout his life he was actively involved in church activities as cantor, treasurer, and loyal parishioner. This strong, gentle, kind, wise, generous, loving, devoted family man was beloved by his family and all who made his acquaintance. A huge void has been left in all of our lives but remembering his example as a godly man gives us direction and meaning in our personal lives. Vespers will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 8621 N. Maya Court. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 11, 2010 at Saint Melany Byzantine Catholic Church, 1212 N. Sahuara Ave., with Military Honors and services to follow at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, 5801 East Grant Road. The family wishes to thank the fourth floor ACT nurses, technicians, and doctors at Northwest Medical Center for their compassionate care.

Uncle George and my mother are part of each other, and have always been stunningly similar in their facial features, and more importantly, in their caring, kind and compassionate personalities. Uncle George was the closest family I had, along with my parents. I somehow always felt he was more like my second father, or grandfather, and he was definitely the Uncle that, by far, I was the closest to, in my heart. I will always love you, Uncle George. Sending a kiss up to Heaven, 'Marianny'.

Dearest Jupinko Family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I remember your Dad as a loving, giving man who would do anything for the ones he loved, and many others, too. He is definately with the Lord now, and with many other good people who have gone before him. He will be missed.

Dear Jupinko Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy for losing your beloved Father and Husband. Everyone talked about George as their rock and I was amazed at the level of love and respect you all have for him. Any man who has such great stories told about him and was blessed with such unconditional affection, must have truly been a great man, husband, father, grandfather and friend.
I feel fortunate to have met him.
May God bless his soul.
