Gladys Beck Obituary

HELLAM TOWNSHIP Gladys E. Beck, 82, died Thursday, August 13, 2015, at her residence. She was the wife of Dean L. Beck. Gladys and Dean observed their 60th wedding anniversary on October 16, 2014. Gladys was born in Dallastown on July 9, 1933, a daughter of the late Spurgeon Cunningham, Sr. and Estella (Reever) Cunningham. In addition to being a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a seamstress for the former South Pine Nightwear Company. Gladys was a 1951 graduate of Hellam High School and a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Hellam. In addition to her husband, Gladys is survived by six sons, Dean Beck, Jr. and his wife, Joan of Felton, Deon Beck and his wife, JoAnne of York, Daniel Beck and his wife, Carrie of York, Dudley Beck and his wife, Cara of Windsor, Dana Beck and his wife Kim of Wrightsville, and Dustin Beck and his wife, Bonnie of Red Lion; a daughter, Carrie Sue Kline and her husband, John of York; 10 grandchildren; one stepgrandson; seven great-grandchildren and a step great-granddaughter. Gladys was one of 20 children and is survived by nine brothers, Spurgeon Cunningham, Jr, James, Clarence, Kenneth, Blaine, Barry, Alan, Mark, and Robert Cunningham; and eight sisters, June Clinton, Patsy Heiland, Alma Klahold, Phyllis Dellinger, Darlene Evans, Mary Lou Gross, Judith Fourhman and Linda Willson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Preston and Dennis Cunningham. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Faith United Methodist Church, 126 E. Market St., Hellam. Officiating will be her pastor, Pastor Vernon E. Shenberger. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Viewings will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
