Howard Bremond Obituary

Howard S. (Digo) Bremond Born in Syracuse, N.Y. on July 29, 1919, Howard began his life journey that ended March 30, 2012. The journey took him as a boy from Syracuse to Boston, then to Tucson in 1933 to attend the Desert School. Upon discovering the Arizona desert, he knew he found the place he belonged. He remained in school in Tucson at the Evans School and the U of A until WWII broke out. He immediately enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the Air Corps, ultimately finding his way to China with the 14th Air Force in a support role to the famed Flying Tigers. In 1945 he returned to Tucson and married Mary Miner. He completed his education earning BS, MBA, and MEd degrees from the U of A. His work included periods as a rancher/farmer, banker, entrepreneur and school teacher. Upon retirement, Howard was able to pursue his passions: sailing, hiking, volunteering at the Desert Museum as a docent, with the TMC Auxiliary, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a charter member of the Mountain Oyster Club, a long time member of St. Philip's In The Hills Episcopal Church, a member of the Navy League, and the Westerners. He is predeceased by his father, Howard Bremond; mother, Frances Bremond Jenney; wife, Comfort Bremond and grandsons, John Bremond Jr. and Robert Bremond. He is survived by his first wife, Mary Cason; children, Elizabeth (Max) Mikesell, Ann (Michael) Sulllivan, John (Paulette) Bremond and Judy (Bill) Scharf; stepchildren, Gene Jones, Suzanne Hawk, Terrence Jones and Barbara Jones and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A stoic man of tremendous strength, integrity and courage, Howard "Digo" to his friends, was much loved and will be greatly missed. The family extends its thanks and appreciation to the many caregivers who assisted Howard, especially Jose Cota, Joe Wronko, Heather Simonsen and the TMC Hospice team. A Celebration of his life will be held at St. Philip's In the Hills at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations be considered to the St. Philip's Preservation and Endowment Foundation or the Tucson Humane Society. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.
