Howard Lacy Obituary

Howard Wayne Lacy was larger than life in both stature and the way in which he embraced living. On January 13, 2010, at 82 years, Howard passed away at his home in Tucson, Arizona. Born July 7, 1927 during the Depression, Howard was a proponent of hard work and the American dream. Raised in Denver, Howard graduated from North High School just before marrying his first wife, Alice. At 17 he went into service in WW II as a U.S. Marine, stationed in Beijing, China between 1945-46. Howard graduated from Colorado University in Boulder with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1951. Howard's career focus has always been engineering, and he founded electrical and control manufacturing companies. He also developed the Arvada Technological Center and the West Woods Commercial Center. His land acquisitions over 25 years in the foothills surrounding Denver were sold to Jefferson County Open Space in 1998 (nearly 3000 acres) creating a legacy for generations of Coloradans. Throughout Howard's career his word was his bond, and he treated others as he wished to be treated. He began a scholarship fund at CU Boulder's School of Engineering. Howard's heart lived in the mountains of Colorado, where he lived for 76 of his 82 years. In 2004 he moved to Tucson for his health. Howard never fully retired. Work was his passion, and it was in the business world that he thrived. Howard loved fishing in Canada and traveled extensively throughout his life. In his later years he enjoyed managing business, spending time with his family, and an occasional Scotch. He was a treasured father, husband, and friend. He is survived by wife, Pam Lacy; daughters, Linda Lacy of Arvada, CO, and Leslie Lacy of Tucson, AZ; brother and sister-in-law, Dudley and Shari Butler of Jefferson County, CO; nephew, Wayne Butler; niece, Daleen and husband, Tham Parks and great- nephews, Tyler, Charlie and Sam Parks and Jack Mueller. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Francis in the Foothills Methodist Church on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity, or the CU Foundation for the Howard Lacy Scholarship Fund, 422 UCB, Boulder, CO 80309.
