Islas Carlos

Tucson native Carlos Islas passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 19, 2024, at the age of 79. A man of great discipline and dedication, Carlos was known for his hard-working nature, loyalty, and perfectionist tendencies who took great pride in his work.

Carlos spent much of his career as a Construction Superintendent for Sundt Corp. His passion for building and meticulous attention to detail were evident in projects across the US and overseas. Outside of work, he enjoyed building anything, allowing him to express his creativity and technical skill. In retirement, Carlos made annual December trips bringing gifts to the children in need of Nogales, Sonora. He contributed to the community many times over by using his expert hands.

Carlos leaves behind a loving family, including his wife of 60 years, Susana Altamirano Islas, and their children: Carlos Jr., Raul (Monica), Mario (Rob Bartylla), and Sara (Noe Mendoza). He was also a proud grandfather to Jessica, Tori, Susie, Roolie, Stevie, Danny, Bryanna, Anissa, Lucas, Ethan, Bella, and Buddy, and a great-grandfather to RE, Andy, Little Stevie, Sammy, Stephanie, Bobby and Sofia. Additionally, Carlos is survived by his sister Carmen Rasmussen.

Services in memory of Carlos will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024. Visitation at Carillo's Tucson Mortuary at 8 AM, rosary and mass at Santa Cruz Catholic Church at 9:30, followed by burial at Holy Hope Cemetery. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
