Zimmerman, James Roscoe

07/12/1928 - 01/21/2022

James was born and raised in the Cincinnati area. He was the older son of Roscoe and Miriam Zimmerman. He is survived by Rachel, his beloved wife of over 71 years. Also surviving are their children, Ross (Pamela), Mary, and Andrew (Susan); daughter-in-law, Emily Nottingham; grandchildren, Benjamin (Rebecca), Ian (Kelly), Rachel (Joao), Mary, and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Colin, and Nikki. He is also survived by his brother, Frank, of Mason, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Linda Zimmerman, and his oldest grandson, Gabriel Zimmerman. James earned a bachelor's degree from Hanover College and a masters and doctorate in Zoology from Indiana University. He served in the Army as a forward observer and reconnaissance sergeant in Korea where he earned a Purple Heart. After two short terms on the faculties of the University of Wichita and Indiana Central College, he obtained a position in the Biology Department of New Mexico State University, Las Cruces. Following retirement he and Rachel moved to Tucson. There he had an adjunct position in the Department of Entomology of the University of Arizona for over 30 years. James requests that there be no services. Any donations in his name may be given to the Department of Entomology Insect Collection (UAIC) or the Gabe Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship in the Arizona State University School of Social Work.
