Jeanette Thompson Mumma

MUMMA, Jeanette Thompson, 94, of Tucson, formerly Portland, OR passed away August 21, 2009. Jeanette, an only child, was born August 24, 1914 in Astoria, OR to Alfred and Jennie Thompson. She graduated from Astoria High School and attended the University of Oregon for three years. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Due to the depression she was forced to get a job in Portland as a secretary. She met her husband, Van there and they dated four years prior to getting married. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the Army. When he was transferred to Alaska, they lived in Anchorage for eight months before he was deployed overseas. Jeanette moved back to Portland where she was employed by New York Life Insurance Co. After the war Van and Jeanette were in the home construction business for 25 years until Van's retirement. Jeanette is survived by her son, Richard; grandchildren, Ryan and Jason (Tina); great-grandchildren, Allison and Austin; niece, Shirley M. King. She was predeceased by her husband, Van I. Mumma on December 29, 1991. A Service will be held Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
