Jeffrey Gavin Obituary

Jeffrey Scott Gavin age 45, of Tucson, Arizona, died Friday morning, June 10, 2011, after heroically battling leukemia. He was, and forever will be, a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend. Jeff was born in Little Rock, AR, to John Max Gavin and Eileen Krablin. After graduating from Catholic High, he obtained a computer engineering degree from Henderson State and then a masters degree from UA Fayetteville, AR. He eloped with his college sweetheart, Kim, during his mission work with the Southern Baptist Student Missionaries. Jeff was very proud of the fact SBC created a new rule prohibiting such actions in the future! His job then took him to Dallas, TX, Ridgecrest, CA, Arkadelphia, AR and finally to Tucson, AZ. In his last job at Raytheon, he was voted by his peers as Employee of the Month this past April. Everywhere he lived he made lifetime friends such as his buddies, Carl and Bob. He was notorious for pulling out all the stops on the church organ for his finales in each town. He liked to go out with a bang! Jeff will be forever remembered by his best friend and wife of 23 short years, Kim and their incredible children, Andrew, 16, Catherine, 13, Georgia, 10, Charlotte, 7 and Silvia, 4. Jeff will also be forever remembered by his mother, Eileen Krablin; his brother, Phillip Gavin; his sisters, Marion Gavin, Kathy Bailey and Tammy Freeman and extended family and dear friends. So many people, everyone who met Jeff, was touched by his sense of humor and empathy. Above all though, he was an exceptional father and husband. With his love, strength and devotion, he gave his family everything he had, including valiantly fighting his diagnosis. Everyone should be so blessed by God to have such a husband and father. Mr. Chemo Sabe's family would like to give a special thanks to his doctors and hospital wives at St. Joseph's in Tucson and Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix for their care. We also want to thank his co-workers at Raytheon for their continuing support and of course, to his Church Family at Desert Skies. A celebration of his life will be held at Desert Skies United Methodist Church in Tucson Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dan officiating. In lieu of flowers, his wife asks that memorials be made to a tax deductible educational fund for his children established at Desert Skies UMC: 3255 N. Houghton Rd., Tucson, AZ 85749 (520) 749-0521. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

There will never be a day when you do not feel Jeff. There will never be a time when you do not remember him. There will never be a time when you do not Love him. He will always and forever be holding your hand. In a soft whisper he proclaims," Bless you all."

September 12, 2011

There is not a moment that goes by that I cannot stop thinking of you. You are and always will be the best brother anyone could have ever asked for. You are up there with many loved ones. Fishing?? Having a beer with Daddy? Watching a ball game with Art? Or just looking down and knowing how wonderful all your creations are. You are so, so very missed. Wishes do not always make dreams come true. He took the best when he took you.
When it comes to our feelings about the past, I might have found comfort in telling myself that I did the best I could at the time. Knowing this probably helped me get through some tough times and deal with my feelings of guilt. But you and only you were there for me until the final moments. I can never thank you enough. I can just pray that this little pesky rabbit is you that comes up very close to me almost every day as he stands on his hind legs and looks at me........... Staring........I wait, like Alice,hmmmmmmmmm.......... no words. Just hope. Love you dearly. Tamara

Today, when I find myself feeling guilty about something I've done, I can still remind myself that I'm doing the best I can. With all my knowledge, growth, healing, and willingness, I will still make mistakes. I'm not perfect, nor do I strive to be. I'm doing the best I can do, day by day.

Today I will remind myself of this anytime I feel bad about something I've said or done.

Kim, I am so saddened by your loss. I don't know if I ever met Jeff in person, but I always thought a lot of you and your family - always so giving. After you and your family moved from Arkadelphia, I feel like I finally got to know Jeff through his Facebook postings and I credit him for giving me many laughs. I will be praying for you and your precious kids during this difficult time.

I miss you, amigo, especially when I am on Facebook. I miss your humor and your vaguely inappropriate comments and your political commentary. Most of all I miss your spirit and the twinkle in your eye, metaphorically speaking. And I am really jealous that you can now talk to God face-to-face and get answers to all of those ultimate questions that haunt me. I am blessed to have known you! Vaya con Dios, amigo!

I didn't know Jeff personally, but he sounded like a great guy. I'm sorry he had to die so young, and especially with his children being so young still. Condolences to his wife, and everyone else that knew him. It's tough, but I know you'll get through this. I am Bryn Fenoglio's nephew, by the way.

Kim and family, we are very sorry to hear of your loss. One of the things that always comes to mind when thinking of you all is the joy and love between you. I especially remember when Jeff was playing the organ at one of the services a while back at the end of the service, all of a sudden he had one of the little girls needing to be with him. He just reached down and set her on the organ bench next to him and continured the music for the end of the service. A really special father. Love to you all, The Johnsen's, Lyle and Nancy

I know that we did not know Jeff as long as many others, but he touched our lives in a way that few people have. While he will be missed terribly here on Earth, he is showing the angels a few new ways to play the organ. He definitely knew how to keep people interested during the musical part of the service.
