John Davenport Obituary
John Lincoln "Link" Davenport passed away on February 22, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona.
Born on November 11, 1945, in Redwood City, California, John spent his early years in Atherton before his family settled in Los Altos. He attended Menlo School before transferring to Cubberly High School. From a young age, Link was captivated by the butterflies of Northern California, sparking a lifelong appreciation for nature. He pursued his passion for psychology at Whittier College in Los Angeles. In the late 1960s, he joined the VISTA program, teaching in Kansas City and later working with an NGO in Santiago, Chile, where he taught for two years. He went on to earn a master's degree in child psychology from San Francisco State University. John eventually moved to Seattle, Washington, where he dedicated his career to various child service programs across King and Snohomish Counties. In 2013, he relocated to Tucson, Arizona. His love of nature and education continued through volunteer work at the Sonoran Desert Museum, Tohono Chul Botanical Gardens, and the Butterfly Museum. His many interests included gardening, photography, aquarium fishkeeping, travel, and caring for his pet cats. He traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and South America.
John is remembered by his siblings Peter Davenport of Seattle and Sally Davenport of Tucson. He shared close bonds with his nephews Chuck Montaudon (and Chuck's son Thomas) of California; Jeffrey Montaudon of Virginia; Adam Montaudon of San Jose; and Matthew Montaudon of Edmonds, Washington. He was also close to his nieces Nina Davenport of Costa Rica and Erica Davenport of Seattle.
