KANOUSE, Lisa Marie

Local artist Lisa Marie Kanouse suffered an untimely death on April 7, 2020 at home. She is well known for her paintings of local landmarks and desert scenes and was widely exhibited. Lisa was born May 15, 1976 and lived in the downtown and west side of Tucson, most recently in Barrio Hollywood. She attended Davis Bilingual Elementary, and graduated from Green Fields Country Day School and the University of Arizona. She also attended Parsons School of Design in New York City. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Upham and father, Robert Kanouse; her son, Justin Schaffer; brothers, Patrick Bruner of Tucson, Christopher Kanouse, David Kanouse and Aaron Kanouse of Temple, Texas; stepfather, Sean Bruner; stepsister, Mona Bruner; loving companion, Justin Gamble and many friends and supporters. Lisa always enjoyed life and had an infectious laugh that brightened up any room she occupied. Her talent was limitless and her style continued to evolve over the years. She will be deeply missed. A memorial will be announced at a later date. Remembrances can be donated to any local charity helping the homeless. Arrangements by HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HOME.

I think of Lisa often and her paintings inspire me daily. I´ve since moved from Tucson and live downtown in a big city. I´m thankful to have a bit of Tucson in my new home. There is such beauty and sensitivity in her paintings. I´m so sorry Lisa is no longer with us, but her paintings carry on her beauty.

I knew Lisa from mutual friends and art openings in Tucson, she was such a bright star and so generous with her time and things, I have several little Lisa pieces I have always cherished. I was so shocked to hear of her passing and my heart hurts to know the world has been deprived of her light and unique gifts. My condolences to her family, friends that are family, and the love of her life Justin. I met them together a few times and you could just see their glow and how special their love for one another is. When he wasn't at openings she gushed about him and how his support allows her to follow her artwork dreams . I'm so sorry you've lost your other half Justin. I hope you're getting the support you deserve, Lisa wouldn't want it any other way. Love you Lisa, love to your loved ones.

My condolences to Lisa's family and loved ones. I met Lisa when I came to Tucson in 2013. I always appreciated her ebullient openness. I think her life, art, was definitely a reflection of Tucson, beautiful. She will be forever etched in my memory as joy and colorful and kind. Just remember art openings, here she comes dressed stylishly and unique, a contributor and participant of her community & enriching it's very core. So sorry to hear you left us too early.

I am so very sorry and saddened to learn of Lisa's passing. I didn't know her personally, but I felt as if I did through her lovely paintings. I own 7 of her paintings and they bring me such peace and happiness. May God bless Lisa's family and friends who are mourning the loss of a very special and talented person.

Our hearts remain overwhelmed by grief and sadness. Yet brightened daily by memories of our Binky. And soon our home will be joyfully beautified by her art.

Will always cherish her infectious smile, twinkle in her beautiful eyes and her wild laughter. So many, many memories over the past 4 decades. Always will love our Binky. Thank you Elizabeth for sharing her with us.

Lisa was my first friend at school, she was my best friend. We soent alot of time together as children. We played and learned. Being creative and different was part of our daily life then and now. When I moved to New Mexico we stayed intouch, I always visited her when I came to Tucson and she and her parents would always maje an effort to visit when they were able to. We had planed to work on projects together in the near future and were always encouraging eachother to reach for the stars. Last year after Barrio Hollywood art show we went out to an art party, big house. She asked me, do you think we'll ever get this big doing our art. I told her we'll be bigger. Inspired great things in herself and in others. I miss her deeply. I love you Lisa, Izzzic, Monie. My deepest condolences to her mama, papa, Bruner, brother, sister, son and extended family. I especially want to reach out to Justin to let him know Lance Eric and I are here for you. I hope to meet Lisa's friends so we can work on an art project as a memorial to her. Lisa thank Lisa thank you for always being my friend.

Lisa you are my first real friend in life, we did alot of growing up togeter and learning art together. As kids we were the best of friends always being creative and even when I moved to New Mexico we would visit eachother. I always thought of you and talked about you with my friends and family. My dreams of being an artist have not changed since we were kids, I will continue to reach my goals. Just last year you you asked me, Ozzzy do you think we will ever get as big as this? This meaning having all the wonderful things that people who have it all have, but not by working for a company but being and artist. I said, we are gonna be even bigger! She smiled. We had plans to do so much together in the future. I miss you deeply. I hope to meet all her friends so we can work on a Fresco project and dedicate it to Lisa, Izzzic, Monie. Ialso want to tell her mama, papa, Bruner, brother, sister, extanded family, I Love you very much! Justin Lance Eric and I are hear for you, please reach out to us, we love you too very much. God bless our artista Lisa
