Michael Lortie Obituary

Michael Patrick Lortie age 60, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 after a ten month battle with brain cancer. Born July 28, 1951 in Port Jefferson, New York. Michael grew up on a dairy farm on Long Island. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and several branches of the Reserves. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kathy Lortie and his son, Shawn Michael Lortie (Lansing, Michigan) and children, Sarah Lortie and David Lortie of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Susan. Michael loved life and adventure. He was open and outgoing; he traveled the world and had many friends. He moved to Tucson with his family in 1989 to work at UMC as a Materials Manager and later at Carondolet in the same capacity. He recently worked in Qatar helping to build a women and children's hospital. He loved to serve and for many years delivered and dished a monthly dinner for Primavera. He was a sailor, a collector and a gentleman - always smiling, always charming. He said his goal in life was to be a good father and to make his wife happy. He was therefore a successful man. Memorial Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2011 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 7650 N. Paseo del Norte, Tucson. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Andrew's Mission Fund. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.

Just read in the October 2012 AHRMM publication about Michael's passing. He was a great person and I sad to hear of his passing. I feel he's probably looking down upon all of us smiling broadly. Best to his loved ones.

My condolences to Michaels family, I worked with Michael at St. Mary's, and always enjoyed our meetings and talks. One day I was admiring a large diagram of a B-52 bomber he had hanging in his office, and the next day he had one waiting for me at work. That's just the kind of guy he was. That meant so much to me. Michael will surely be missed. Andy Almodova (Tucson, Az)

Mike was a wonderful co-worker. We shared some memorable laughs during the H1N1 crisis a few years ago. He always responded immediately to my many phone calls for supply updates. He will be remembered. My sympathies to his family.

I have wonderful memories of Michael. I can hear his laughter, see him going for the chocolate cake at a party and eating his and any other icing, because "icing is the best part of a cake" Michael was kind and very generous to many, and we will never forget that. Calling Mike "friend" for the past 7 years has been a joy.
Heaven better have a lot of chocolate and yards sales... Sanford Out
