Miriam Tollefson Stockton

Miriam Tollefson Stockton of Oro Valley, died on November 22, 2006, at the age of 72 years. She was a long time resident of Tucson, active in community affairs, art circles, PEO and her church, Northwest Community Friends Church. She was an accomplished artist, with her paintings exhibited in local art shows and at other venues. Miriam's family and friends filled her life with activities and joy. Born in Augusta, Maine to Quaker (Religious Society of Friends) parents, Miriam graduated from Richmond High School in Richmond, Indiana, and attended Guilford College, a Quaker school in Greensboro, North Carolina. She married and lived there for several years before moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and then to Loveland, Colorado, where she continued her painting and worked in an artist's supply store. She had her own art and gift gallery, "Many Hands Courtyard," in a craft mall for several years in addition to her art, she was also busy with ranch activities and had a passion for horses, which frequently became the subject of her art work. Winters in Arizona led to her permanent residence here. Miriam and her husband, Walter Scott Stockton, Jr., lived in Sun City Vistoso before moving to the Highlands in Oro Valley. She is greatly missed by her husband, as well as her two sons, Chuck Collins; his wife, Amy, and their two children, Madalyn and Jeremy of Spanish Fort, Alabama; and John Collins, his wife, Terry, and their children, Casey, Stiner and Abby of Powell, Wyoming. Others included two great-grandchildren, a brother and two sisters, their spouses and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Miriam Stockton will be held at Northwest Community Friends Church, 5950 N. La Canada Dr. on Friday, December 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Internment will be in a family cemetery in South China, Maine. Memorial gifts may be given to the Friends Church or Odyssey Hospice Home.
