Professor Marshall was a kind and thoughtful man. He never put on airs or talked down to students or to anyone else. I met him my junior year in 1975, did well in his macroeconomics entry level class, and became his grader the next year. We would chat in his office from time to time and partake of some of the beautiful scenery just outside his window - he was always cheerful and encouraging and supportive. He kindly wrote a letter of recommendation for me to enter law school in California many years later. He attended my mother's funeral as well as my younger sister's wedding in Tucson. He was a friend, mentor and a role model. I too, like many others, will miss him. My condolences to Billie and to his children whom he loved dearly.

Dr. Robert H. Marshall served on my doctoral committee at the University of Arizona (I was the Department's first Ph.D in economics - 1966). He was an absolutely wonderful man in every respect. I am so sorry that he has passed and I know that I speak for countless students (graduate as well as undergraduate) who were privileged to have the benefit of his unfailing kindness and wisdom. Dr. Marshall was known as an outstanding teacher aside from his exemplary personal qualities. I last saw him in 1993 at his office where he permitted me to take his picture. I had not seen him since the time of my graduation and when he glanced up from his desk to see who his visitor was he not only remembered me but called me by name (I arrived completely unannounced). My sincere condolences to your entire family and may God bless and protect Dr. Marshall.

It was a great pleasure to have been given the chance to know Uncle Bob this past decade.
I loved his enthusiastic energy and out look on life, thank you Aunt Billie for that wonderful gift.
Our heart felt sympathy goes out to you and the family. Tina

We will miss Uncle Bob so much. He earned a very special place in our hearts: first by putting up with us when we were teenagers and then be being genuinely interested in our lives and our children's lives. He was a kind and caring man. We will always love him. Greer

Billie and Family,
So sorry to see that Dr. Marshall passed away. I first met him when I joined the Economics Department at the University of Arizona as a secretary in Economics in 1982. We also saw him at church when you used to go to Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. I am still at the UA but now am in the Deans Office of the Business School. He always said HI when I would see him in hallways or at events and always asked how my husband was doing. I will keep your family in my prayers.
