Robert Mataczynski Obituary

MATACZYNSKI, Robert R., known by many as Doc Matt, died peacefully Thursday, July 1, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth. He was born February 5, 1930 in Detroit, MI. His parents were Anthony and Charlotte (died in childbirth) Mataczynski and Estelle Mataczynski. Doc Matt graduated from University of Wisconsin Madison Medical School in 1955. Robert served in the U.S. Army as a Captain from 1957 - 1959 where he was Assistant Chief of Obstetrics & Gynecology at U.S. Army Hospital in Wurzburg, Germany. Upon completion of his service duty, he returned to Superior where he was a family physician until his retirement in 1995. Doc Matt married his beloved wife, Joy Hunt, in 1955. Together they traveled and raised four children. They wintered in Tucson, AZ. He was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Ace Investments, and the Elks Club 403 and their bowling/golf leagues. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, William. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joy; daughters, Cindy (Mike Sternal), South Range, Tomi (Charlie) Streety, Tucson, AZ; sons, Dr. James (Grazyna), Racine, WI, Rob Jr., Boise, ID; grandchildren, Sylwia and Natalia Mataczynski, Carolyn (Travis) Jones, Stephanie (Jess Belwood) Kucharyski, Catherine (Alex Amys) Kucharyski, Steven Kucharyski, Jule, Beau and Eden Streety; great-grandchildren, Madeline and Miriam Jones, Amber and Maddox Belwood. The Celebration of his life was held July 9, 2010 at United Presbyterian Church in Superior, Wisconsin.
