Roger Hull Obituary

Roger Lee Hull of Whitakers, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He was born July 18, 1935 in Leggett to his parents Dallas and Geneva W. Hull who preceded him in death. Roger is survived by his wife, Sylvia Hawkins Hull after 23 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Ted Hull and his wife Deanna, from New Port, a daughter, Mary Ellen Hull Joyner of Nashville and a daughter Angela Hawkins Reed and her husband Bill of Wilson. He leaves a sister, Virginia Dew of Rocky Mount and two brothers, Joe Hull of Winton and Otis Hull and his wife Kathleen of Nashville and six grandchildren; Sierra Hull, Nathaniel Hull, Faith Hull Joshua Hull, Janna Joyner and Justin Reed. Roger graduated from Red Oak High School and received a baseball scholarship to Oak Ridge Academy. He was a passionate fan of all sports, not just baseball which he had played so well. He was a great Wake Forest Supporter. He was an avid gardener, well known for his tomatoes and watermelons which he loved to share with his many friends and neighbors. Roger worked at Sears for 40 years. He held the position of Automotive Manager at the time of his retirement. His considerate and friendly service was missed by his customers. He and his wife continued to be active in the Sears retirement group. As a child, Roger grew up in Salem community and was a charter member of Salem Baptist Church. He moved to Red Oak and raised his children in The Red Oak Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was active in the choir. He was also a member of the Red Oak Volunteer Fire Department. He moved back to Salem in the "80s and moved his Church membership back to Salem. He continued to use his beautiful voice for more than fifty years in the two church choirs. He served as a deacon at Salem Church, worked with the youth and was always busy in his work for the Lord. Of all the things he loved, the love for his church, his Lord, his family and friends was always at the top of the list. He will be missed by those of us left behind. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to; Salem Baptist Church, 4502 Swift Creek School Road, Whitakers, NC 27891. Condolences to the Hull family may be sent to [email protected]. Funeral services will be held at 11 Monday at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Williams and Rev. Rucker Burnette officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Arrangements by Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 North Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Sylvia, I am sorry to hear about your loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and yours. Salem and Red Oak was a great place to live,Rodger was well liked and loved by all who knew him.
