Ted Hendrickson Obituary
Ted Charles Hendrickson 71, passed away on November 26, 2012 in Tucson, Arizona. He was born January 13, 1941 in Denmark, Arkansas, the son of Theodore and Maupha (Brown) Hendrickson. He attended Rock Island Senior High School in Rock Island, IL. After school in 1959 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 101 First Airborne in Fort Campbell, KY during 1961 and 1962, joined the 7th Special Forces Group in 1963, then the 3rd Special Forces Group in 1965 during which time he earned the Master Parachute Badge. In July of 1966 Sgt. Hendrickson entered Engineer Officers Candidate School at Ft. Belvior, VA, graduating as a Second Lieutenant. Lt. Hendrickson was then transferred to the 595th Light Combat Engineer Company at Ft. Riley, KS. Between the dates of March, 1967 through March, 1968 and July, 1969 through June, 1970, Ted spent two tours in Vietnam and received the Silver Star, Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, one Silver Service Star, one Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. His last period of overseas service was in Korea from September, 1975 through October, 1976 at which time he earned the Armed Forces Reserve Medal and the Civil Actions Honor Medal (1st Class). Ted received an Honorable Retirement in January, 1979 with the rank of Major. After Ted's retirement from the service he moved to Pangburn, Arkansas where he enjoyed his acreage and horses. Ted is survived by his children including daughter, Teresa (sons, Justin and Jared); son, Robert (wife, Glenda and children, Lyndsi, Amber, Wyatt, Megan and Chris); son, Steven (significant other, De Ann); son, Jeff (daughter, BethAnn and her son, Shawn); daughter, Stefanie (son, Riley); daughter, Lacy Chambers (husband, Gabe) and daughter, Ainsley. He is also survived by two sisters, Melba Tubbs (sons, Chip and Andrew and Andrew's son, Gannon) and Patricia Holinski (daughters, Malinda and Rhonda and their children); nieces, Cheryl, Rachel Hahn (her children) and Brwyn and nephew, Roger. Ted will be greatly missed by his sisters, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, nieces and nephew. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Maupha Hendrickson and one sister, Barbara McKeag. Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. with Military Honors at 3:30 p.m. at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd., Tucson, Arizona. Following Services in Tucson, Rob, Steve, Jeff and Stefanie will take their Father home to Little Rock, Arkansas for Visitation, Funeral Services and military honors at the Powell Funeral Home, in Bald Knob, Arkansas on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Velvet Ridge Cemetery, Velvet Ridge, Arkansas. The family suggests memorial contributions (in lieu of flowers) in Ted's name be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
