Thomas Keely Obituary

Thomas Keely, Jr., M.D. 2-15-24 -- 10-17-07 Dr. Keely was born in Denver, CO, the son of Thomas Keely and Margaret Clayton Keely. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ursula and four children, Thomas III, of Cape May, NJ, Catherine Hornfeldt (Gary) of Charleston, SC, Brendan Keely (Pamela) of Folsom, CA and Robert Clayton Keely (Toni) of Tucson, AZ. Also three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Mary K. Walker of Springfield, MO and a brother George Clayton Keely of Bow Mar, CO. Dr. Keely joined the U.S. Army in June 1943 and graduated from Drury College Springfield, MO in 1946. After having joined the US Army he completed additional premedical studies at Yale University, and graduated from Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO in June, 1947. After a one-year internship at Barnes Hospital and a three-year residency in Radiology at Mallinkrodt Institute, he was certified by the American Board of Radiology in June, 1951. He joined the U.S. Army Medical Corps in July, 1951 and remained until July, 1953, serving 18 months in Japan. In August, 1953, Tom entered the practice of radiology in Tucson, AZ as an associate of Wesley S. Fee, M.D. In 1956 he became head of radiology at the Tucson Clinic (later named Tucson Medical Associates) until his retirement in December, 1987. Affiliations: AOA honorary medical societies, AMA, Arizona and Pima County Medical Societies, he was also a member of the American College of Radiology and the Radiological Society of North America. He sang in the choirs of St. Joseph's Parish and later St. Pius X Parish. He was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Benedictine Eucharistic Guard and the Southern Arizona hiking club. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and particularly hiking with good friends Dr. and Mrs. John Penners. Tom's family clearly loved him and he will be greatly missed. A memorial mass will be celebrated by Fr. Thomas Millane at St. Pius X church on Wednesday, October 17 at 1:00 p.m. Burial was at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery in Tucson, AZ. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.. Dr. Keely's favorite charities were The American Heart Association, The National Federation for the Blind and Macular Degeneration Research.
