Troy Wilcox Obituary

Our beloved husband, father, and grandpa, Troy Joseph Wilcox, 69, of Marana, AZ, was called home by his heavenly father on September 26, 2022. Troy was born May 19, 1953, in Montpelier, Idaho to Lamond Hiatt and Betty Ermatrude Skinner Wilcox. He was the second of six children, Terrance Wilcox (Logan, UT) Wyatt (Bonnie Burgoyne) Wilcox (Santaquin, UT) Leland Hiatt (Toni) Wilcox (Grantsville, UT) Debbie Amelia (Doyle) Olson (Hyrum, UT) Mondie Scott Wilcox (Natalie) (Logan, UT). Troy was a country boy who enjoyed being outdoors, fly fishing, shooting guns, wood working, making knives and exploring mountain ranges all his life. In high school he was active in basketball, boxing, and wrestling. He often told stories of family cookouts with music and great food. Troy was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints. He had a very deep and abiding testimony and was called to serve for the London East Mission 1972-1974. He was an honorable priesthood holder and held several church callings. Troy attended Ricks College, Idaho State University, BYU, and University of Utah Fuels Engineering and Geology. As an entrepreneur he established Rocky Mountain Corrosion Control, and later he was the operations and Maintenance Manager of the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park, as well as the Sonoran Desert Museum. He married Laurie King Schanzenbach and had his first son, Aaron Joseph Wilcox (Jannel Fossen) (Rock Springs, WY). Troy met his sweetheart and forever love, Letty Ricks Wilcox and they were married in Rexburg, Idaho, on December 27, 1979. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls temple, on June 25, 1982. They had four beautiful children and one granddaughter, Terra Lynn Wilcox (AZ) Jesse Alden Wilcox (deceased) Darcie Jo Wilcox (deceased) Kendra Camile Wilcox (AZ) and Jessica Addison Brown (AZ). Troy was a charismatic soul who made friends everywhere he went. He always had a big smile, and his bear hugs were the best. He loved his faith, family, friends, and freedom with all his heart. He was a man of great integrity and compassion who left a mark on many people's lives. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, 13555 N. Lon Adams Rd., Marana, AZ, 85653. The family will receive friends Monday, October 3, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. for a viewing at MARANA MORTUARY, 12146 W. Barnett Rd., Marana, AZ, 85653.

I was there the day Troy got his order of the arrow award at palisades reservoir on the Apline Wyoming. They sent him out in the woods without anything and he had to tell of his experience at the campfire. The next night. We didn't have a leader staying with us. So Troy and his friend Craig Stewart acted like a leader and made sure we got to where we needed to go. They kicked us out of camp at the end of the week because we had no leader.

Troy had only known me for 90 days, before I had a major Kidney surgery and missed over a month of work. A week into receiving the news that I needed a surgery I went to his office. I told him "I'm home boss, I can't lose this job".. cutting me off he said "don't worry about none of that were going to put together a donation package for you. You'll have sick hours and a pay check, so just go home, heal up and get back to work cuz we really like your work around here! Of course I was crying.

Troy,
From the first moment I saw you. Oh the earth moved and butterflies in my tummy. I really thought I had met you before. I love your kisses and I love your hugs. They just felt so good and safe and secure. You are a wonderful father and loving husband. Your my Best Friend. From reading all the fond memories of the people you touched in your life it is a joy and a testament to you and your life. You are a chosen and valiant son of God. You will be forever upon our hearts and in our thoughts forever more.

Got called to work at night for snow removal. I drove, we worked till 11:30 PM the snow froze. So we had to stop. Driving home at 20mph,road is very slick passed Kino Blv Ok,we just came over the hump on the downhill 6th St underpass, truck went into a spin, 3 times, we stopped at the bottom, facing traffic, but the trucks behind us were stopped at the top. Troy was locked onto the door handle and seatbelt, his eyes were wide open. He said, whew! Ya know someone had a hand on that one! Ken

Hello darlings,
I wanted you to know how much you all mean to me. I know when I lived in Arizona before I never visited, but I always told everyone about my family who lived in Tucson. You always helped dad, Mariah and me at our worst time. And we never take that for granted. I love you always.

Troy you had faith in me, gave me respect and trusted me at a time I wasn't sure about myself. To say you are a friend is inadequate but I can't find a word to say how much you mean to me. Thank you. Keldon

I first met Troy when he came yo interview for the maintenance manager position at Arizona Desert Museum. Troy was very friendly and had a smile ready for you ( if he didn't already have a smile on) he was part of the Safety committee and was able to take all of the resulting work in stride. He worked hard to keep us safe and comfortable for those of us lucky to work inside. I will miss him, but there are projects that he worked on at the Museum that will remind me of him. I'm glad to have known him. With love and prayer.

Troy always welcomed me into
the Wilcox family. He was calm and collected when Kendra & I blasted music through the house. I don't know how he had so much patience for us.
Growing up he shared the best advice. So matter of fact, caring, and logical. He was a great dad and I'm thankful to have known him. Sarah

Dear Wilcox Family 10-4-22
I love you.
I have found memories of Troy serving as a Primary teacher in Primary. Those little children felt so at home with his warm and faith filled lessons. He always ended his lessons testifying of his Savior Jesus Christ. He mentored a young man who had just graduated from high school (for a time) as they team taught together. He made a high difference in the life of that young man as he pulled him in under his wing. Troy was a willing merit badge cancelor helping young men and boys learn and grow. My boys met with him for the Reading Merit Badge. He shared his love for reading and learning from books. Again, he was so encouraged.
Troy Wilcox has made a difference for many, including our family. We love him and will remember him fondly.
Love, Mariann Winfield

My very first memory of Troy was when he came to the barrel race. Right away I could tell he was a true country boy at heart. He loved horses and the people that rode them. He had the kindest heart and warm soul. One of my fondest memories is when we basically spent the whole day with at the gun range. Mike and I talked about how much fun it was hanging out with him and how knowledgeable he was with guns. We are so lucky to have met him and spend time with him. Most of all we are lucky to call his daughter Kendra our best friend. Sending love and prayers to the Wilcox family.

I'll never forget our long talks at the barrel races. He always made me laugh and kept a smile on my face.
I had never even held a gun until I met Kendra and Troy. They both helped me buy and shoot my first gun and fast forward 18 months... I now own 5 guns.
Thanks for everything Troy I'll
miss you at my barrel races and at the range. Mike Burel

I have only spoken to Troy three times in my life. In those small moments I had learned how kind, patient, and amazing he was. I am new to ASDM, and he helped me learn my radio and he help me fix my phone. The last time I saw him, he asked, "That phone working ok?" I said yes. "Good." He replied, "I don't got to worry about you anymore, huh?" I laughed with him and wished him a good day. My deepest condolences and my prayers will be with your family. Troy was an amazing person.

Last time I was able to speak to Uncle Troy he showed me such
Compassion through his listening ear. He took such a genuine interest in who I've become as an adult and what I have done with my life and made me feel so loved. He told me how proud he was of me and let me know that I have a beautiful family. He was kind, genuine, and always so caring. I will miss him dearly. I'm very lucky to own many of his personal knives he made. I love you all.
