We remember Bill, with Dianne, as a warm and welcoming host. Together, they fed us richly, not only with the delicious foods, but also with their love. Bill's wry sense of humor was always expressed with a sense of compassion and understanding for the human condition. He was grateful for all he had been given in marriage, family and profession. And in them all, he gave so much back. When we heard that Bill had entered hospice, my mind went back to his familiar send-off to Lynn and I: "Now go straight home, you two!" That was my prayer for him on that day, and I trust that prayer is now fulfilled.

I cannot say more than Roger Harwell said. Bill thought life was about adding value and everyone could do it. If you didn't think you could he would teach you how to. He always said everyone puts one pant leg on at a time which made us all the same. An amazing people person who could stand up in room and talk to anyone. I knew Bill almost 40 years. He raised me even though I just worked for him. He was a the most amazing person who valued everyone's opinion including a 19 year old. He was a legend.

Who among us does not owe a debt of gratitude to Bill? He lived life large and pulled many of us along in his wake, much to our benefit. His passion for life was exemplary. His curiosity about everything, at least those things that mattered, was amazing. He asked questions that the rest of us never thought to ask. He wanted to know how things worked and why, but he wasn't a detail guy, he always saw the big picture and understood instinctively what made sense in any situation. He seemingly lived without fear and indeed was quick to laugh as he sailed through life's ups and downs. He was a visionary leader. There was always a way forward no matter the obstacle. Most importantly, everyone knew Bill as a generous spirit who loved people. Hence, he was always there to help no matter the request. It's hard to imagine a world without Bill, but onward we go just as he is moving on to his higher purpose.

I met Bill Nelson 55 years ago in Naples, Italy stationed with NATO. I was eating my first breakfast in enlisted men´s mess when Bill approached me & said"I hear you are some kind of engineer" having just graduated I said" oh much better-an architect" That became our ongoing joke throughout our friendship!
3 years later after the army he asked me to come to Tucson to be his best man. It was there that I met the maid of honor, fell in love & have been married 52 years.

I will miss my brother's generous heart and big smiles as he teases me, and the many lectures on understanding thermal dynamics is it applies to hot and cold stones in massage. He was instrumental in guiding me on the importance of teaching thermal concepts to my students properly and thoroughly. Most importantly, I am so grateful that Bill Nelson was my big brother and a wonderful example of what it means to walk your faith and be the best human you can be, always offering `Value´ to everything you do. I will miss you, Billy for the rest of my life.
