Arthur Youmans Obituary

Arthur Youmans Jr.

YOUMANS, Arthur D. Jr., born March 2, 1932b in New Haven, Connecticut. His parents were Arthur D. Youmans Sr. and Marion Ulman. Survived by a brother, John A. Youmans; and nieces, Gerd Feinberg and Mariann Aiwerioba; and 5 grandnieces and grandnephews in Norway; 4 stepchildren, Mary Rankin, Ted Duncan, Tom Duncan and Rene Duncan; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Betty Lee on December 4, 2016. Art received his M.B.A. degree from NYC's Baruch College on the GI Bill. During the Korean War, Art was drafted into the 5th Army and served in the Artillery, Ski Troops, and the Infantry, and was a Life Member of the American Legion, Oklahoma Post 1. He was a former elected V.P. of a national business organization in 27 states and president of these organizations: Tulsa Economics Club, American Marketing Association Tulsa chapter and four Toastmasters clubs in Tulsa and New York City. Art was a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) who also taught evening Marketing courses at Tulsa University & TCC, and delivered speeches on Time Management in Oklahoma, Tennessee & Texas. He also competed in 13 Tulsa Runs, 33 Triathlons (two of them as an above-knee amputee) and lost split-decisions in 2 NYC Karate tournaments. After age 65, Art also wrote over 250 short stories (nine of which were published), two unpublished kid's novels and played bridge with friends at Tulsa Senior Centers & LaFortune Park. His attitude was always positive and his objective at the end of his life was to wear out… not rust out. Each year, Art kept adding to his bucket list, which included a tandem sky dive in Cushing, Oklahoma when he was eighty. In 2017 he was diagnosed with COPD & with congestive heart failure in 2018. His mind was strong and healthy when Art's body gave up when he was 91 years young, proving that smoking for five years as a kid can both shorten your life and is a dumb idea.
