Aylo Reif Obituary

REIF - Aylo, passed peacefully from this life to the next on June 13, 2008. At the time of her passing she was in the care of nurse, Janie Bates of St. Francis Hospice and caregivers, Betty Hall and Jo Ellen Boatright. Aylo wanted to be remembered for her love of animals and her calling to train dogs. Over the years, Aylo was active in several animal welfare organizations, including Friends of Felines and Street Cats. She was a member of the National Association of Pet Dog Trainers and was pursuing training and courses through APDT to earn recognition as a Certified Pet Dog Trainer. She was doing apprentice training under the supervision of Mary Green, Kim Sykes, and Larry Simpson at K-9 Manners and More in Broken Arrow. Aylo was preceded in death by: her father, John A. Brewer; her beloved cousin Aylo Heike Quinteros; and many special dogs and cats for whom she gave a loving home. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Oklahoma Supreme Court Justice John Reif. She is also survived by: her mother, Dorothy Moss Brewer of Dickinson, TX; a brother, John A. Brewer and wife, Peggy; maternal aunt, Aylo Matteson; and special cousins, Kirsten Matteson, Inga Spencer and Elga Matteson. Aylo hopes she is remembered fondly by her surviving paternal uncles, Archie and Dean Brewer and paternal cousins, Dana Brewer, Mark Brewer and Vallie Cook. Aylo wanted to specially remember Laura Robertson and her husband, John Lynne Murtha, Leslie Harrow, Mary Green, Kim Sykes, Larry Simpson and his wife, Mary Ann; John's sister Sue Totz and husband, Herb for their friendship over the years and their support and encouragement in recent months. She leaves her dogs Buddy, Katie Boo Boo, Kitty Puppy and Harley and her cats Apollo, Calhoun, Clover, Dennis, Gladys, J.C., Milo Milton and Tasha in the loving care of her husband John with the promise to greet each of them when their time comes to cross the Rainbow Bridge. A remembrance service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, OK. 252-2518. Dear Judge Reif and all of the Family and Friends,
Aylo was a member of the Neodesha High School Class of 1968. Some of us were attending our 40th class reunion at the time of Aylo's passing, and we are very sorry to hear of your loss. Most of us had not seen Aylo or heard from her in a long time, but we share fond memories of her. Our hearts go out to you all. On behalf of my fellow classmate, please accept our deepest sympathy.

John, please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss of Aylo. Aylo was my favorite friend, playmate, buddy, get-into-trouble maker ;-) as we grew up - many fond memories of those days. Her Mother kept me informed at Christmas about both of you which was always gleefully anticipated. Thank you for being such an important part of her life. Cherish the memories!

Dear John - Dorothy sent us a card telling us about Aylo's passing. We so enjoyed meeting both of you when you attended Joe's funeral several years ago. Even though it was a short visit, we knew Aylo was a special person. Please accept our heartfelt condolences - you are in our thoughts and prayers.

John-This is probably the hardest entry that I have ever written-I honestly do not know what to say- I am sorry we were unable to attend the memorial-we had a previous obligation that we could not get out of. Even though it seems as though Aylo and I had not seen much of each other in the last years-you know what she meant to me as one of my best friends for 40 years-obviously she was always there when I needed her and she never judged what was going on and at different times you know it was not always pleasant. Please know that I thought of her often and I think of you now and you will always be in my thoughts and prayers. I know she loved her animals and I will always remember the dog house she built Pupper. Please and I mean this if Mike and I can do anything please call us-she will always be in my heart-love you always- Ann and Mike

Judge Reif, I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. I will always remember Aylo as one of the kindest people I have ever known. When I was working at Vet. Assoc., I always looked forward to seeing both of you and whatever new pet you all had rescued. Aylo had a true gift for caring for all animals and I know she is doing that still. Aylo was always the first to offer help when it was needed and did so without looking for recognition. Please accept my sincerest condolences on your loss. -Kristi Johnson Wedge

John ~ Although we mourn with you the loss of your beloved Aylo, my heart is filled with warm and wonderful memories of her. Her enormous passion for animals and her kind heart knew no boundaries. How blessed the pets were that found their way to your love and home. Surely God knew these animals had suffered enough and wanted them to have a heaven on earth - so they found their way to the Reif family, where both of you embraced them with love and care. What a joyous day it was when Aylo once again reunited with her pet family, her human family and her friends that have gone before her. My heart goes out to you, John, and please know what you are in my prayers. My dad told me that he did not have to take pictures with a camera; instead he took them with his mind, that way he could look through them anytime he desired. I know your album is filled with an abundance of pictures. I hope that soon fond memories will help ease the pain you feel today. Love, Janie
