Christopher Powell Obituary

Powell, Christopher Allan

September 6, 1957 - March 26, 2024

Christopher Allan Powell was an incredible son, brother, husband, dad, step dad, uncle & friend. He was a long time Tulsa native, was loved and cherished by so many. He was a devout Christian and leaned into his faith throughout his life.

Chris, fondly called "Creech" by many, "Uncie" by nieces and nephews, or "Toph" by his step kids was born September 6th, 1957 in Miami, Oklahoma to Jack and Diane Powell. From the beginning, he was very proud of his Native American heritage and passed stories of our family's history down through future generations. He grew up mostly in Muskogee, Oklahoma and then attended his beloved Oklahoma State University, where he majored in Journalism. Chris enjoyed season football tickets to the OSU Cowboys games for over 42 years and was a die-hard Cowboys fan.

The Powell family spent most weekends at the family lake house in Courthouse Hollow on Grand Lake of the Cherokees. Grandparents Clarence and Ethel Carselowey (Nana & Bobby) bought the land in 1962 and the family enjoyed many years of fond memories there.

He adored his boys, Alexander Jennings Powell and Ellis Jacob Powell. They were both baptized at St. Paul's, a church that holds a very special place in his heart and where he spent many years attending and hours volunteering. His grandson, Lewis Alexander, will also be baptized at the church soon.

Chris had an award winning career at Baxter Medical and was the founder & owner of Grant Manufacturing. Despite his great success in his work life, it was his family life that defined him. He was extremely proud of his family. A free spirit in the truest sense of the word, Chris was passionate about music, art, history, traveling, scuba diving, sports, and his faith.

Chris is survived by the love of his life and wife, Stana Powell; son Alexander Powell, daughter-in-law Susanna Powell, and their son Lewis; son Ellis Powell; stepdaughter Cailey Klingaman, her husband Danny, and their son Jack; stepson Ben Dougherty and his fiancé Lauren Mohar; stepdaughters Carolyn and Claire Dougherty; sister Debbie Johnson and brother-in-law Robert Johnson; sister Sherri King and brother-in-law Eric King; niece Sarah Seiler, her husband Jay Seiler, and their children Cheyenne Clemen, Marcus Clemen, London Seiler, and Trinity Seiler; nephew Eric Johnson, his wife Bre Johnson, and their son Jett.

We said our final goodbyes on March 26, 2024.  Because Chris was an organ donor, he was honored with a hero walk out of the hospital and then taken to the organ donation center. As Chris was taken out of the hospital, his family and the medical staff lined the hallways while one of his favorite songs, "Stairway to Heaven," played over the speaker. In a final, selfless act, he saved several lives with his donated organs and was able to provide great comfort to his family during a challenging time.

Chris's celebration of life will be on Friday, April 19th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St Paul's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Chris's church, http://stpaulstulsa.com. To donate, go to the site, click on "Online Giving." You will then see General Fund, Manna Meals, and Donations in Memory. Manna meals (an outreach to the homeless) was Chris's passion.

I was the oldest daughter of your neighbors on courthouse hollow, Warren Paris and Deborah Paris. We lost Warren two years ago. I just wanted you all to know, we have thought of you often.

My sympathies to Stana, Alex, Ellis, and the rest of the family .
I met Chris playing church league softball in the late 80´s.
Then had a great time with him & his boys in the YMCA Indian Guides program when the kids were young.
Chris was fun to know.
