Curtis Gimlin Obituary

Curtis Lee Gimlin

June 26, 1951 - August 26, 2023

Retired financial advisor and native Tulsan, Curtis Lee Gimlin passed away peacefully on August 26, 2023, at the age of 72.

Born on June 26, 1951, Curtis graduated from Edison High School's Class of '69. He went on to earn a degree in mathematics from the University of Oklahoma where he was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. Curtis remained a loyal supporter of Sooner athletics for the rest of his life. He spent the last twenty-five years of his career as a financial advisor at Edward Jones.

Curtis had a lifelong dedication to Masonic organizations beginning with DeMolay in his youth. A Past Master of Jenks Masonic Lodge plus a Scottish Rite Knight Commander of the Court of Honor, he would go on to become a 33rd degree Mason. He was also a member of Akdar Shrine and York Rite Bodies.

Later, Curtis would give more time to the youth organization he came up in by serving in several adult roles within the International Supreme Council of DeMolay, Director of Conclave, Executive Officer for Oklahoma from 1993-2006, and as President of the International DeMolay Foundation.

Curtis will be remembered as a loving husband, giving father, loyal friend, born leader, and gracious host. He was a mentor to many and an inspired dancer.

His laughter was both booming and infectious. A gifted orator, he was able to command a large room or delight a small crowd.

He was preceded in death by his father, J. Harold Gimlin; his mother, Joan Martindale Gimlin; and his brother, Steve Gimlin.

Curtis leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his sister, Leslie Gimlin; his wife, Carol Lynn Gimlin; and his sons, Daniel and Matthew Thoms Gimlin.

Memorial services to celebrate Curtis' life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to: The Oklahoma DeMolay Trust in Memory of Curtis L. Gimlin, 3150 East 34th Street Tulsa, OK 74105.

In a life time you meet some good people and Curtis was certainly one of them. When I was President of the Highland Park DeMolay Chapter, Curtis was very active supporting DeMolay and Rainbow girls as a Chapter Dad. He worked for another giant among men, Carly F Bryant. If I, Chapter Dad Frank Kell or anyone else in DeMolay needed help, he was there with what ever kind of help we needed. My condolences to his family and prayers for peace for them.

Over the 25 years working together at Edward Jones, I felt I had a true friend in Curtis. The pandemic drove others apart but it pulled us together because we, four of us shared lunch in the park almost every weekday. I miss that, and I miss him.
