Edward McFarland Obituary

McFARLAND - Edward L. "Ed," was born in Pittsburg, KS November 19, 1931 to Ernest H. and Glen (Coles) McFarland. He passed from this life Monday, March 17, 2008 at the age of 76. He graduated from the University of Tulsa and was a distinguished graduate in the Air Force ROTC program. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the year of his graduation. Among his active duty, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve service, he served in flying positions in Germany and France and with the Air Guard in Tulsa. He retired from the Pentagon as Major General having served 35 years and was awarded the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, the highest Air Force peacetime award. Along with his military service, Ed operated a real estate brokerage firm, specializing in commercial properties. He was active in the Tulsa Airport Authority for eight years, served as chairman of several Tulsa air shows, was named "Mr. Tulsa Aviation" in 1978 and was recognized for his contribution to aviation by the Tulsa Air and Space Museum. He is survived by: his daughters and son-in-law, E. Marie and Todd Scribner and Anne McFarland; and, his grandson, Duncan McFarland Scribner. A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m., Monday at First Presbyterian Church with full military honors to follow at Memorial Park cemetery. A reception celebrating the lives of both Ed and Gloria will also be held on Tuesday following the service for Mrs. McFarland at the Bernsen Center of First Presbyterian Church.
