Eileen Patricia "Pat" Morley Anthony
Eileen Patricia ("Pat") Morley Anthony was born on February 18, 1925 in Winner, S.D. to Hubert and Ayleen (Mosier) Morley. Pat grew up in Cleveland, OH and Minneapolis/St Paul, Minn. In 1943 she graduated from Shaw High School in Cleveland and enrolled at Ohio University, but World War II and limited resources ended her two year college experience.
She returned to Cleveland, doing office work in the daytime and factory work-the "Victory" shift-in the evening. In 1946 she interviewed and was chosen to be a stewardess for American Airlines, despite never having been on a plane nor having been further east than Cleveland. Based in New York City, Pat traveled throughout the United States and Mexico. In 1949 Pat's face graced LIFE Magazine's American Airlines advertisements and its promotional materials throughout the 1950's. While flying from 1946-1950 Pat met various celebrities including Mr. Marcus of Nieman Marcus, Gene Kelly, Danny Kaye, Oleg Cassini, Anthony Quinn, Montgomery Cliff, and Celeste Holm. In 1949 mutual friends introduced Pat and Dave Anthony in New York City, and they married September 7, 1950 in Midland, TX, where he was a geologist for Cities Services Oil Co. Dave's job took them to Bartlesville, OK, Lafayette, LA, Red Bank, NJ and Westfield, NJ, for his work in New York City. During this time she and Dave became the proud parents of Cathy, Jon, and Rob. During her child rearing years with 3 children each one year apart, Pat nonetheless found time to sew clothes, slipcovers, and participate in church activities. She also began to enter the contests popular in the 1950's and 60's: the 25 words or less paragraphs, jingles, slogans, and essays. Her apron pockets brimmed with snippets of jingles and phrases that she'd turn into prize winning entrees such as Betty Crocker contests. Much to her and her family's delight she won many of the contests that she entered. With one prize, a gleaming white kitchen radio, she listened to nutrition shows and was ahead of her time in serving whole grain, whole wheat, skim milk, and fresh foods for her family. Multiple attempts to get on a TV game show paid off in 1963 when Pat appeared on "Window Shopping", a national TV show, and won the grand prize, including a piano, tires, watch, camping equipment, TV, oven, a motor scooter, and a Montgomery Ward gift certificate. With Pat's encouragement, her children entered and won multiple essay and art contests. As her children entered junior high and high school, Pat returned to college, first at Bartlesville Wesleyan and later at the University of Tulsa, finishing her B.S. in 1970. During her college career Pat published articles in Tulsa Magazine, including a profile of author S.E. Hinton who was her classmate at T.U. Pat earned her Master's degree in Education in 1975 and taught English and Journalism at Monte Casino High School, where her school newspaper won first place in the University of Tulsa's High School competition in which 51 schools from northeast Oklahoma competed. She later taught at Tulsa Jr. College and at Spartan School of Aeronautics where she was chosen as the "Teacher of the Year" by her colleagues. She was the family resource for punctuation, grammar, and spelling, and had one grandchild follow her into teaching English.
In retirement Pat was active in Church of the Madalene Parish and also with Meals on Wheels. She and Dave also traveled to Ireland, Alaska, Italy, Mexico, Canada, Bermuda, and California. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Dave, her parents, her siblings, Roger and Jane, and her grandson, Justin Anthony. She is survived by her three children: Cathy Anthony Tkach (Larry), of Davis, CA, Dr. Jonathan Anthony (Jennifer) of Tulsa, and Bob (Holly) of Norman; her nieces and nephews: Bob Anthony, Chris Bard, Jennie Bard, Elaine Morley, Susan Morley; and 12 grandchildren: David(Courtney), Daniel(Jackie), Andrew (Ashley)Tkach, and Sarah(Glenn) Ulansey (Davis, CA), Jason, Julia, and Jennifer Jane Anthony (Tulsa, OK); and Aaron (Mandy), Joe (Katelyn), Mary , Anna, and Michael Anthony (Norman,OK); and great-grandchildren: Ariya, Clara, Audrey, Miriam, Luca, Eva, and Ethan.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to Dr. Mike Weisz; to the staff at Montereau on 1 North Chateau; and to Gayla and Amber Logan whose care for Mom when she was at home made them family members.
