Ella Avery Obituary

Ella Jane Wolverton Avery passed away in Bethesda, MD on Nov. 30, 2025. Jane was born on Nov. 3, 1933, in Tulsa, where she lived until she married in 1955. She is a graduate of Will Rogers High School and attended Oklahoma State University and University of Tulsa, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.

She is predeceased by her parents, Willam Franklin Wolverton and Mildred June Hogan Wolverton, as well her husband of 63 years, Cyrus Stevens Avery II.

While living in Boston, MA, Jane worked for the Smithsonian, while her husband attended Harvard Business School. They then moved to the Washington, DC area, residing in Bethesda, MD and McLean, VA.

Jane spent many years volunteering as the catalog editor for the annual Washington Antiques Show and was on the Ladies Board of the House of Mercy, where she also started and ran their resale clothing shop, The Thrift Tree.

Jane will be lovingly remembered by her son, Cyrus Stevens Avery III (m. Aimée Reinhart Avery), her daughter, Allyson Anne Avery (m. Francis Douglas Hartnett), step-grandsons Cole Francis Hartnett and Samuel Timothy Hartnett, her sisters June Wolverton Wilborn and Judy Wolverton Bridges, and her nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 20, 2025, in the Chapel at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
