Palma B. Avery

With much sadness we share the passing of our beloved Palma May Brochu Avery, on Sunday March 15, 2026. Born September 27,1932 to Gilsey "Bud" Brochu and Dolores LaTourrette in Monticello, she grew up in the family-owned boarding house (The LaTourrette) in Monticello. A true depression era baby, she was a 1950 graduate of Monticello High School, and while in school she was a proud member of the American Legion Drum & Bugle Corp., which instilled a lifelong love of parades.

In 1968 Palma began her banking career with National Union Bank in Monticello in the Data Processing Dept. She would later move into the role of branch manager at the Otisville Key Bank, after being promoted to Assistant VP, Lastly, manager of the Circleville Key Bank. After over 25 years, Palma retired from banking and took on a 2nd career as a volunteer for 16 years with the Monticello Seniors, serving as Treasurer & event planner. But her favorite role was Grandma.

Palma was a strong, independent, and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed bowling and dancing, be it line dancing, square dancing or a fox trot. And took pride in dressing for holidays, events, or activities with hats, scarves and other accessories to match whatever the occasion may be.

She is survived by her daughters Bonnie Avery (Lisa Gardener) of Spokane WA. And Sue Ellen, husband Howie Goldsmith and grandchildren Mathew Goldsmith of Mongaup Valley, NY and Allie Goldsmith of Boston MA and several nieces and a nephew. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Herbert W Avery, son Bruce N Avery and brother James P Brochu.

Visitation will be held on Saturday March 21st from 1:00pm-3:00pm, with service at 3:00pm, at VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello, followed by burial at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello.
