Gerald Stamper Obituary

Gerald Gordon "Pete" Stamper

Gerald Gordon "Pete" Stamper passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021, at Clarehouse in Tulsa. He was 85.

Pete was born on February 8, 1936 in Dawson, Oklahoma to Earl Edward and Hettie Mae Faulkner Stamper. In middle school at Grover Cleveland, he met his longtime friend and future law partner, Buddy Fallis. To see those two together was pure joy! Even though Buddy was victorious in their 7th grade presidential election, the friendship continued for over 70 years. It was in high school, at Will Rogers, that Pete met the sweetheart who would become his wife of over 65 years, Pat. College and law school at the University of Oklahoma followed. Immediately after graduation, Pete was inducted into the US Navy and he headed to Newport, Rhode Island for Officer Candidate School. Lt. Stamper served proudly as a member of the JAG Corps and he and Pat thoroughly enjoyed their years in Pensacola and San Francisco. Tulsa beckoned and Pete answered in 1964, returning to go into private practice and to welcome Kim(berly) to the family. In 1967, Michele came along and completed Pete's house full of girls.

A member of the Oklahoma Bar for six decades, Pete was admitted to multiple state, federal and tribal courts, including the United States Supreme Court, providing a full and remarkable career. From Thornton and Stamper to General Counsel at Manhattan Construction, to his many years at Nichols, Wolfe, Stamper, Nally, Fallis & Robertson and finally his Of Counsel position at Barrow & Grimm, he was a highly respected and dedicated attorney who loved his work and pursued it with honor and diligence.

A longtime member of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, Pete will always be remembered for his annual performance as emcee for the Spring Sing. He was a consummate entertainer and commanded attention whether in a courtroom or on a church stage. His sense of humor was legendary. A dry wit the likes of which you've never seen! A wordsmith of the highest order and a dapper clotheshorse, who was always impeccable, Pete was a commanding presence.

After his three girls, Pete had several other loves. The OU Sooners, tinkering in his formidable workshop and on cars, toiling in the yard, hanging elaborate Christmas light creations, Abraham Lincoln, eagles and treats. All the treats, especially ice cream!

He was generous, thoughtful, kind, and brilliant. He was simply a wonderful man and it was, truly, a wonderful life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pat, his daughters Kim King and Michele Efron, sons-in-law Dan and Mark, and his 5 grandchildren, Thomas, Patrick and Phoebe King , and Lauren and Sarah Efron.

The family requests that any donations be made in Pete's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or Clarehouse. A memorial service will be held at a future time TBD and announced. https://www.schaudtfuneralservice.com

When I think of Pete, a true gentleman with a great sense of humor comes to mind. He and my dad had a similar sense of humor. I think laughter is a huge part of our lives, and it will keep us more vibrant. The whole Stamper family's has a special place in my heart. Pat, Kim, and Michele, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm here for you - if needed.
With love always,
Bev
