Janet LaNell (Wilson) Freeman passed from this life on February 16, 2022 at her home in Tulsa, OK. Janet was born on October 3, 1957 in Seminole, TX to Don and Mary Wilson. She grew up in Claremore and graduated from Claremore High School in 1975. Following high school she attended and graduated from Claremore Jr. College (now Rogers State University) and Central State University (now University of Central Oklahoma).

Growing up, Janet was involved in many school activities but she was particularly active in 4-H. Along with sewing, public speaking and performing, 4-H was Janet's introduction to the world of plants and gardening. That childhood interest was nurtured by her Grandpa Wilson, an avid gardener, and later by her father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Zada Freeman. "Digging in the dirt" was her happy place. Always ambitious and passionate about anything she did, Janet became a Master Gardener and volunteer at Linnaeus Teaching Garden at Woodward Park. She had a love and appreciation of plants and was always generous with her time and talents. Walking with Janet through a city park, national park or backyard flower bed was a time of discovery as she exclaimed over the beauty of a stem, a bloom or just the color of the soil.

Janet married Duane Freeman in 1984. They made their home in Broken Arrow and 9 1/2 months later they welcomed their son, Alex. Janet loved being a mom and approached it with her signature passion. She volunteered in the classroom, helped start a school orchestra and scheduled time to travel so she could experience the world through the eyes of her child.

Janet loved art, music, plants and travel. In recent years she moved to Tulsa and surrounded herself with friends who shared these passions. Her circle of friends enriched her life and she was always eager to attend the latest exhibition, concert or adventure with her girls. She was a favorite aunt/great aunt to her nieces and nephews and "Aunt Jannie's" arrival was always greeted with hugs and tickles. She was loyal to her friends and family and could be counted on to care for those she loved.

Janet is survived by her son, Alex Freeman, of Fairborn, Ohio; her mother, Mary Miller of Claremore, OK; her sister, Marla Lillie and husband Ron of Claremore, OK; and her nieces and nephews, Jason Lillie and wife Julianne, Gaila Lillie, Matthew Wilson, Brian Rule, Ellie Lane and husband Clay and Samuel Lillie and wife Anna. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Donald Wilson, and her brother, Rodney Wilson. https://www.serenitytulsa.com
