Jerry Mullennix Obituary

Jerry Ray Mullennix

Jerry Ray Mullennix passed away after a brief illness on October 21st, 2021, surrounded by family. He was born on June 9th, 1956, in Dallas, Texas, to the late Edgar and Marie Mullennix. Adventure brought Jerry great joy, and as the oldest of four brothers, he often led the charge in their mischievous childhood pranks. He graduated from Irving High School in 1975 and began a career in the oil and gas industry. Jerry worked for Halliburton, traveling the world, and living in exotic places like Egypt and Tanzania.

After several years with Halliburton, he decided it was time to come home and make a career change. Jerry was a computer whiz and began a long and impressive professional career in IT.

He was a dog lover who was never without a faithful companion by his side. An avid astronomer, he was a long-time member of the Tulsa Astronomy Club, serving as editor and publisher of their newsletter, The Observer. He also loved restoring vintage watches to pristine condition.

His favorite place was his land near Atoka, Oklahoma, which he nicknamed Oleo Acres – "one of the cheaper spreads". He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors, even becoming a cattle rancher for a brief stint.

"Bubba," as those who loved him like to call him, had the biggest heart. His capacity for kindness, compassion, and forgiveness was unparalleled. Everyone who met him loved him. He always had a joke ready for the guys and a story prepared for the kids. His nieces and nephews vividly remember tales of "The Magical Leaping Lizard" and "The Purple Princess." Many of these sagas could go on for months at a time during dinner visits. After he finished storytime, Jerry would usually pull out the dreaded Claw, which was just his giant hand turned down with his fingers pointed and ready to tickle unsuspecting children.

Jerry is survived by three brothers, Berry Mullennix and his wife Regina of Tulsa, OK, Terry Mullennix of McKinney, TX, and Raymond Mullennix and his wife Dana of Irving, TX; and six nieces and nephews, Michael Mullennix of Holland, MI, Sydnee Mullennix of Irving, TX, Devin Mullennix of Houston, TX, Casey Mullennix of Clarksville, TN, Nicholas Mullennix of McKinney, TX, and Simone Mullennix of Tulsa, OK. The kindness, love, and friendship that Jerry gave throughout his life will be carried by all of us who were lucky enough to have known him.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled soon. Please contact his family to be included. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tulsa Astronomy Club. A link can be found at

Uncle Bubba was the first person I knew on a personal level that would be considered a polymath. From his love of the outdoors. To working on watches , being a computer mastermind , who in fairness constantly read to make himself better in computers. As well as his fondness for cooking as well as his fondness of painting. That only scratches the surface on the man I knew as uncle Bubba. He is well missed and well loved. May he Relax in Paradise.

Oct 27, 2011. Jerry and I promised each other we would just go to Hula Lake to observe and would not listen to, or discuss the World Series game. It was Game 6 between his Rangers and my Cardinals. And we kept our word; along a few others, we had a very nice night. Then, as soon as I left, I, of course, tuned in the game. It had just ended - Cards won in what is still considered one for the ages. That was the kind of friend Jerry was. I'm sure he was tempted to check the score, but he was there to enjoy the night with his friends and dog. Gonna miss him for sure. My family's prayers with his.
