Larry Hildebrand Obituary

Hildebrand, Larry

January 13, 1949 - October 4, 2023

Larry Hildebrand left this life peacefully at 12:47 AM October 4. Larry was 74 at the time of his passing. Larry was residing at the VA Retirement Center in the memory unit. He passed from complications due to advanced Vascular Dementia.

Larry is survived by wife Patty, children Khan Hildebrand, Cinda Mass, Joshua Mass, two brothers, Don Hildebrand and Scott Hildebrand, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and his dog/friend Chaco who he loved for 11 years.

It would be amiss if we were not to mention some of Larrys passions. He loved teaching and we want all of the students who went through his classrooms and shop at Spartan College of Aeronautics( where he taught for nearly 30 years) to know that he loved his job and loved seeing the spark in a student's eye when they finally understood a concept. He was patient beyond measure, and always willing to donate his time to help his students. When we were out you never knew when someone would shout, "hey Mr. H", it would be one of his past students; once we were in Dallas in an elevator! Larry always wished he could remember each and every name, but there were so many over the years.

We wish to mention also his brothers in arms: Alpha Company, 2nd battalion, 501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Division; and his brothers on the road and in the sky. Larry was as comfortable free falling as he was on his Harley. Larry once rode to Quincy Indiana for the world free fall convention, then dropped into Sturgis for the 50th Anniversary. Larry was confident, strong, and his sense of humor was 2nd to none. If Larry were around, you would always hear laughter, we will miss that. Everyone who was privileged enough to spend time with Larry came away a changed person with maybe a different perspective and possibly a better understanding of what our purpose here is all about. We are all grateful to have known him, he will be sorely missed.

Life Celebration pending, will post info at a later date

One of the kindest and most amazing men I ever knew. He had a sense of humor that would light up a room, he always made sure to tell jokes and keep you smiling.

He was not just a good man but an amazing one, he provided my family with emotional stability and comfort for many years. When I think back to my childhood he was always there, fishing out arrowheads in the creek with me and indulging my silliness.

It took me a long time to find the words to describe what he was to me; and now I know it´s safety. He made me feel safe.

Love you Grandpa, I miss you constantly. Give Sammy, Schatzi and Chaco many cuddles and snuggles in the next life for me.

I really enjoyed working with Larry. He and I both taught at Spartan. Back in the 80's, he was also one of my instructors. We enjoyed sitting in the teachers lounge swapping stories from our military careers. He was a great guy and I will miss him. I send my prayers to the family.
