Michael McCann Obituary

Michael McCann

Michael L. McCann, age 75, of Tulsa, OK, passed away on Friday, January 14th, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cindy McCann; his son Michael and wife, Angie and his daughter Katie and husband Chad; grandchildren, Aidan, Connor, Jacob, Liam, and Ethan. Preceding him in passing were his parents, Riley Sr. and Woneta and his brothers, Riley Jr., and John.

He was born March 18, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri. Growing up in Coffeyville, KS, Mike was popular among his peers. As Vice President of the Class of 1964, he graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School where he was voted "most likely to accomplish everything in life". Mike attended SMU in Dallas and was a diver for the swim team and a member of Phi Delta Theta. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. On March 28, 1970, Mike and Cindy were married after 8 years of dating.

After graduation, Mike enlisted with the Army National Guard and was sent to Ft. Jackson, SC for boot camp where he was recognized as "Outstanding Trainee" upon completion of his training. Mike also served honorably in the Oklahoma Air National Guard.

Beginning in 1970, Mike spent 30 plus years in the petroleum industry. Much of this career was spent in Tulsa and ended in San Antonio, TX. In 2015, he returned to Tulsa for his retirement to be near his family and most importantly, his grandchildren. He was known as "Gramps" and was adored by them. He loved Grand Lake, skiing in Crested Butte, running in the Tulsa Run, golfing, playing poker and the occasional Martini or glass of red wine. Anyone who knew him, knew his love for life and his generous heart.

He was a Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Pilgrim-Rock Masonic Lodge #522, the Akdar Shriners, and in certain circles, revered by many to be the greatest "Mr. Laughter" of all time! He loved spending time with his masonic brethren, particularly the Royal Order of Jesters, where he served as Director in 2017.

A Celebration of Life honoring and remembering Michael L. McCann will be held Feb. 26 at 4:00 at the Rivercrest Event Center in Bixby.

We will miss Mike , as he was a long time trader in our industry . I always enjoyed talking and dealing with him . I still have the framed picture of the MIDLAND in my 50's Diner , that will always make me think of MIKE. God bless you Cindy and your family. ( Frances and I streamed the service as we could not make the trip to Tulsa . Your son and daughter did great tributes to their DAD.)

My love to the McCann family. Mr. Mike will be missed but never forgotten. So many good memories with McCann family over the years. Mike and Cindy were like second parents.
From driving big brown to Crested Butte, to Mike teaching me to ski and side stepping up the mountain to get a ski after a yard sale, to Mike teaching us how to drive breaking as we go into a curve and accelerating out of it. Mike also taught me that a nickel and a dime have differing values in gambling speak.
The fun stories he shared and his laugh will always bring a smile.
Sending strength.
