Ned Trevor Harney, MD

Mar 10, 1933 - Aug 9, 2025

Ned Trevor Harney, MD, passed from this life on Saturday, June 9, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mack Monroe Harney, his mother Kate Evelyn Harney, his brother Mack Harney, and by his wife Marilyn.

Ned is survived by his daughter Melanie English, her husband John and their three children, Christy Mather, Michael English and Lyndie Mather, as well as their spouses and children; his daughter Angela Lindsay, her husband David, and Angela's daughters Amy Wilson and Amanda Wilson; his son Ned Trevor Harney II; and by his daughter Lisa Shepler, her husband Tim and their children Ryan Shepler and Haley Shepler.

Ned was born on March 10, 1933, in Smithville, Tennessee, the second son born to his parents Mack and Kate. He grew up on a farm outside Smithville and graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1950. In 1956, Ned graduated from medical school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He completed his internship at the Hillcrest Medical Center in 1957 and in 1960, he completed a two-year residency program in internal medicine at the Beckly Memorial Hospital in West Virginia.

After his medical education and training, he worked as an internist at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, before moving his practice to Jasper, Alabama. In 1968, he moved back to Tulsa where he practiced medicine until his retirement. During his career, he served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma Tulsa Medical College, as Chief of Internal Medicine at Hillcrest Medical Center, as Medical Director for Hillcrest Home Care, and in several other leadership positions, while maintaining a busy medical practice.

Ned's many interests included golf, gardening, and fishing, but above all, spending time with his family. On October 1, 2024, Ned and his wife Marilyn celebrated 70 years of marriage. Ned was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he was also a beloved doctor. His life-long passion was helping others through medicine, and he cared deeply about each of his patients.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. A very fine Doctor and a good man. I worked with him years ago at Hillcrest as well as my husband Dr Steven Cohenour did as well. He thought very highly of him.
